Description s3m10s 2005-02-12 16:12:44 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.3.92)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources
OS: Linux

Shadows(not just transparency) should be albe to be disabled for certain apps, particularly background applets/apps like superkaramba themes and for panels.

rules: after the message freeze.
until then, it's allready possible to deactivate shadows for certain windows.
1. docks: there's an option for the dock shadow size - set the value to zero and the shadow disappears
2. dcop interface (ask "dcop kwin default") - you need to know the window ID (query it using e.g. xwininfo)
3. KWin::setShadowSize() - developers can set the shadowsize of their window to zero if they consider it should be unshadowed

Has there been any progress on this? I guess the dcop tip is out of date - can it be done using the dbus interface in KDE 4.2?

I'm not sure if it was part of the initial idea but, in KDE4, it would be great if we could set different levels of desktop effect according to the focused windows.

I take an example to explain it better. There's an effect which darken the background behind the focused windows. It's great to have the mind focused on only one window. But the level of the effect is global. Instead of this, I would prefer to be able to set, for example :
- if the focus is on a video application or a game, then the background is really darkened (like for the logout dialog)
- if the focus is on another window, the background is lightly darkened.

Of course, I can also use another virtual desktop with a black wallpaper, but it's less pretty :-)

When working with multiple windows (such as in the Gimp, or two Okular windows side by side) the otherwise terrific Dim Inactive effect gets annoying. Please add an option to not dim specific windows on the fly. I imagine that an option in the title bar menu would suffice.
