Can confirm. Raising priority as this makes it practically impossible to re-arrange icons without destroying your existing arrangement.

I can confirm that it happens for me as well, even when programs are closed (thus have no previws)

It appears to be a Qt issue. Should be fixed with https://codereview.qt-project.org/c/qt/qtwayland/+/565408.

Sorry if this is not the right place to ask, but do we know in which version of QT this will be fixed in ?, the issue linked shows the fix being still in "active" but doesn't appear to be merged in, (i am not familliar with the qt website so that's why i'm asking)
Comment 13 Nate Graham 2024-06-20 13:49:41 UTC
No, because the fix it not merged in Qt yet.
Comment 14 Nate Graham 2024-06-20 17:42:00 UTC
The patch was merged!

Yess!! , i'll now be patiently waiting for the QT update, people didn't take me seriously when i recommended kde plasma to them and they noticed that "such a basic feature" was broken.

Thanks to all the KDE devs involved, you guys are genuinely the ones who allowed me to switch to linux hassle free, you make a difference, believe me,

Cheers,

It is better in 6.7.3 (first icon you grab does not change during hoovering over others) but it is hard to change to another icon (after first one is released). Semi fixed. Should I report back to qt?
Comment 22 Liarus1001 2024-10-03 12:14:11 UTC
Hello, the issue is definitely still not fixed even after the QT update
Comment 23 Nate Graham 2024-10-04 00:20:22 UTC
Interestingly, even without the Qt update, I can no longer reproduce this at all in Plasma 6.2. So it looks like there was an additional issue on our side as well which has thankfully been fixed now.

Re-closing, but if anyone can still reproduce the issue in Plasma 6.2, let's re-open it again.

Hello Mr Graham, i come with sad news, that the bug is still not fixed,

Happens to me: i am on Fedora 41, Plasma 6.2.3, KDE Frameworks 6.8.0, and QT 6.8.0
Happens on my friend's computer on Bazzite 41: Plasma 6.2.2, KDE Frameworks 6.7.0, and QT 6.8.0
Happens on my friend's other computer on OpenSUSE Tumbleweed: Plasma 6.2.80, KDE Frameworks 6.9.0, QT 6.8.0

Dragging the first icon appears to work normally, but as soon as you try moving another icon, it does the exact same bug again.

Forgot to mention, it also happens directly in the Fedora KDE Live installer, and same for the CachyOS one, i can provide a video if necessary.

I think the real fix is in Qt 6.8.1 which should be released on 21st (https://wiki.qt.io/Qt_6.8_Release).
I would wait for that.
Comment 27 Nate Graham 2024-11-12 15:04:51 UTC
Yes, as the "Version fixed in" field says: "Plasma 6.2.0 with Qt 6.7.3 or 6.8.1"
