Version: (using KDE 4.3.4) Installed from: openSUSE RPMs It is good, that kde-4 allows complex hal conditions and delivers good defaults, but there needs to be more control over actions, that should be done. Also only few people will be able to define the conditions manually. 1. I think it is really important to be able to specify mount options for mounting devices from kde (device notifier), reasons are - problems with access rights (mostly for fat file systems) - encoding problems (mostly for fat file systems) I have problems with both. Access-rights, because I don't want to access my external usb drive (fat) as user only, but also from apache/mysql for example. And I also had encoding problems with german umlauts (even if these were a result of different opensuse- and/or kde-versions mounting drives with different options in the past). I think this problem could be solved by adding more parameters like mount options to "kioclient exec", which is used in systemsettings for control. 2. It would also be fine to add a parameter to "just mount" the device without opening it in the file-manager. 3. Another problem is, that it is not possible to define default actions (or did I miss something?). Sometimes I don't want the device notifier to notify me about a device (or to show it only, when it was already connected), but to do a default action like mounting it without asking (thats what ms-windows does, and I like it). 4. it would be nice to be able to define names for the mount points created in media like /media/mymusic, /media/mybackup for individual devices. 5. create hal-conditions (most users won't be able to do this by hand in systemsettings) "by example": plug in an external drive and allowing the user to define actions (for example via context menu in device notifier opening same dialog as in system-settings, but with already defined conditions, whch identify the drive. perhaps difficult to define how to identify a drive?) I had a look in bugs.kde for bugs related to mounting problems and found surprisingly many, I think at least following bugs could be fixed by allowing more control over mounting behaviour: bug 161673 bug 216985 bug 188310 bug 168914 bug 194891 bug 170636
