(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: kwin
Severity: important
Version: 1.94

When I press Alt-F2 the first time the Run dialog pops up in the current
workspace. When I then change workspaces and press Alt-F2 another time
first nothing happens then on second press KDE changes to the workspace
where the Run dialog was opened the first time and shows it.

I am using the 00.10.02 compilation from Debian unstable (woody).

I think this is a show stopper ;)

Thanks!

Debian system with the current version from unstable.

System information:

Konqueror 1.9.8 (kde2.0) Debian Package 4:2.0-final-11)
Package was built on 25 Nov 2000 (according to changelog.Debian)

I cannot reproduce that nor have I seen that with any KDE 3.0 version
(including the one on S.u.S.E). I have no idea what went wrong.

Comment 5 Halla Rempt 2004-08-21 20:57:26 UTC
With the SuSE KDE 3.3.0 rpm's from the apt repository, I have exactly this problem. It's as if the minicli (or kwin) remembers on which desktop it was first started. Every time I press alt-f2 I am transported back to the desktop where I first pressed alt-f2.
Comment 6 domseichter 2004-08-22 18:00:53 UTC
I can confirm this, with the suse 3.3.0 rpms.
Comment 7 Ralf Wiebicke 2004-08-23 11:52:15 UTC
I have exactly the behaviour described by Jens Benecke. It appeared after upgrading Suse binary rpms from 3.2.1 to 3.3.0. Such a problem has never occurred on my system before. I reverted the upgrade back to 3.2.1, but this did not help, the same problem did then happen on 3.2.1 as well. So I'm back on 3.3.0 again.
Comment 8 Ralf Wiebicke 2004-08-23 12:16:59 UTC
a closer look:

When I press Alt-F2 on the "wrong" desktop, the command window opens on desktop were it opened for the first time. But the desktop is not switched. So this almost appears, as nothing has happened.

When I press Alt-F2 on the "wrong" desktop once more, the desktop is switched to the desktop were the command window opened.

Bug in SUSE Qt package (actually in fact in Xlib). Updated package with a workaround should be available soon.

As a quick workaround I set the "run command" window as "To Desktop -> All Desktops" and then saved this behavior. So it does not matter on which desktop you press Alt-F2.

I upgraded the actual packages of qt and kdelibs of ftp.suse.com for suse 8.2 and the problem with kasbar is gone.

But now I have a crash of konqueror as webbrowser now *) -:(
(writing this from good old netscape)
Did I miss some packages to upgrade?
Unfortunately ftp.suse.com is unreachable now ..

Indeed, removing libkrpmview.* helps ):-
I assume that this lib is part of the original SuSe kde extensions?
Thanx for the hint.

I've installed these and the taskbar problem seems fixed.

On a side-note, I haven't been able to load any OpenOffice.org apps ever
since, but I did do some other system changes at that time. So if anyone has
a problem with OOo after installing these packages, let me know... else I'll
keep hunting for the bug...

Comment 34 lenz 2004-08-27 23:03:26 UTC
Yes, I too notice that OOo fails after installing these latest
SUSE 9.1 packages:

$ OOo
Starting /opt/OpenOffice.org/program/soffice...
soffice.bin: kdecore/kcmdlineargs.cpp:159: static void KCmdLineArgs::init(int, char**, const KAboutData*, bool): Assertion `argsList == 0' failed.
zsh: 11285 abort OOo

This already being discussed on the suse-beta-e mailing list as well.
Comment 35 lenz 2004-08-27 23:05:29 UTC
Here is a workaround:

"OOo --widgets-set default" should fix this crash for now.
Comment 36 Phil Rigby 2004-08-28 02:53:27 UTC
As for the taskbar problem, I'm experiencing it with Fedora Core 3 Test 1 (KDE 3.3 compiled myself from source). I'm going to upgrade the QT to 3.3.3 to see if that fixes it, I'll report back.

Phil.

I am reopening this bug since it appears to be still present for KDE 3.3.0 and Qt 3.3.3 on Ark Linux. I suspect that many others are in agreement that this is still happening on other *NIXs other than Ark.

And I'm closing it because this is no KDE bug. Packagers have been already notified, so bug them.

gcc 4.1 this bug is especially annoying when you switch to any xgl/aiglx/nvidia-drivers base with beryl or compiz - the cube effect tricks kde into thinking there is only one desktop, so currently alt+f2 sends it to a desktop that no longer exists and i cannot get it to run.

I have switched to katapult for now...
