systemsettings (1.0) on KDE Platform 4.7.1 (4.7.1) using Qt 4.7.4
- What I was doing when the application crashed:
Adding a Samsung ML-2010 printer. The printer is on my network. It is discoverable by Avahi. It is also addressable using IPP. Adding either kind of printer often causes a crash. Occasionally, the action succeeds but printing remains impossible. I've also experienced crashes when deleting the printer.

Today, some Kubuntu 11.10 printer updates arrived, so I installed them and tried again to configure printing. Printer configuration failed reliably, whether I added a network printer or removed a network printer.

What are the chances that this time it's a bug that was fixed in a previous release? ISTR that it was the [K]Ubuntu 8.x series and 9.x series. David, the big problem is that the printer settings has been written in Python, instead of in C++. This makes it nearly impossible to debug when the bug is in the interpreter or in the bindings. After the update from KDE 4.7.2 to KDE 4.7.3 was the Installaton of the
printer succesfull. No Crashes no Bugs on both Machines Intel i920 System and
AMD T1190. No Problems.

Is it possible to run the Python bits on the console? I tried this: talmage@facteur:~$ python /usr/share/kde4/apps/system-config-printer-kde/system-config-printer-kde.py Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module" Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module" /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtk-2.0/gtk/__init__.py:127: RuntimeWarning: PyOS_InputHook is not available for interactive use of PyGTK set_interactive(1) RalfPasieka, I will try upgrading to KDE 4.7.3 from ppa:kubuntu-ppa/ppa. This is going to take all day. Why is it that I'm never desperate to print until printing is broken? :-( After upgrading to KDE 4.7.3, I confirm that selecting a printer and printing a test page does not crash the control panel. However, printing is still broken, at least for my network printer. /var/log/cups/error_log contains a lot of messages like these: D [11/Nov/2011:13:40:05 -0500] [Job 170] Getting supported attributes...
