Version: 1.6 (using KDE KDE 3.1.94) Installed from: Compiled From Sources OS: Linux When my broken DHCP server assigns me a new IP, or I move my laptop from one location to another and try to use KMail, it still tries to use the old connection but it "never" times out. (It seems to take more than five minutes at least.) (I suspect the same problem could occur if a laptop suspends for several minutes.) The behaviour I expect is for KMail to quickly detect that the current and connection is broken reconnect without loosing any state. Now I have to close KMail - sometimes even kill it - and start it again.
This is a wish and no bug.
Sorry no. It's definitly a bug in the slave, that it doesn't detect such errors well enough.
Possibly related: bug 104764 covers a similar problem with accessing remote calendars in korganizer. Could this be a bug in the underlying networking libs in KDE?
Reassigning the bugs of the SMTP, IMAP and POP ioslaves to kdepim-bugs.

I would say that this is still an issue when moving between say home and work.
This is more than an issue about moving around on a laptop. When I work on customer projects, I'll connect/disconnect from various VPNs. Kmail (and Kmail via Kontact) communicates with my imap servers fine *before* any VPN connection. But after the first VPN connection, at best Kmail fails to comm with the same imap servers for several minutes....sometimes it recovers and eventually successfully comms with the servers; sometimes i have have to bring down the vpn, sometimes i have to restart kmail, sometimes i have to kill kmail. I'm on opensuse with kmail 1.13.6.
kio_imap4 doesn't exist anymore.
