Description Krasimir Kazakov 2003-05-27 09:35:09 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1.2)
Installed from: Slackware Packages
OS: Linux

In the Control Panel, I want to assign ONLY Alt + Shift as shortcut (in my case - on KDE Keyboard Tool). This is because most of the bulgarian users use combination of Alt + Shift, Ctrl + Shift or simply Ctrl.

Can you make it handle these keys too?

Thanks in advance, all of the bulgarian KDE users will appreciate this!

I mean ONLY modifier keys, not modifier key + anything_else

Modifier-only shortcuts are a misfeature with both technical and usability problems -> there won't be any generic support for it in KDE. If you want such a shortcut for switching keyboard layouts for compatibility with Windows or whatever, that's specific only to kxkb -> bug #26846.

I guess it's clear enough from all rejections of people wishing to do this that it won't ever be supported, but just to add my 2c:

I've used RAlt+RCtrl as a shortcut for "Mute" on my keyboard for years - it works fine on Cinnamon, Windows (via AHK), etc. In all the years, I've never had any issue or conflict. I was a bit baffled when I couldn't get it to work on Plasma, having moved over from Cinnamon specifically because it's supposedly the most flexible & customizable.

Even if this is not an "ideal" shortcut, Plasma really shines in its customizability and the fact that it doesn't purport to be one-size-fits-all. I really don't understand the perspective of saying "...but THIS particular customization, which clearly some people desire, we refuse to allow." What's the harm in letting people customize it how they see fit?

`Alt+Shift` does'nt works together at all for shortcuts. Neither for default nor for custom.

Despite the `Ctrl+Alt+Shift+ARROW_RIGHT` and `Ctrl+Alt+Shift+ARROW_LEFT` is set by defalt for moving windows across desktops - it doesn't works!
The `Shift` is ignored and just `Ctrl+Alt+ARROW_RIGHT` and `Ctrl+Alt+ARROW_LEFT` is triggered.
