Oh, actually not a dupe.

I think either your opengl stack or Qt has some woes.

When you start kinfocenter from a terminal, what is its output when it crashes?

Resolved by restarting X server.  I believe a Steam game may have been hung in the background after having disabled the compositor.

Ah well, likely something weird going on with opengl then.
