Comment 1 Dario Andres 2009-10-29 14:56:18 UTC
From bug 212284:
What I was doing when the application crashed:
Trying to open Kontact, has one IMAP account, it crashes immediately. It was
working correctly until I upgraded to the RC.

What needs to be done to confirm this??
I cannot use KMail on Kubuntu 9.10 at work because of this bug!
Comment 6 Dario Andres 2009-11-16 01:57:41 UTC
So far, only people using (K)Ubuntu 9.10 have reported this bug, may be it was caused by some patch. Jonathan?
Comment 7 Jonathan Thomas 2009-11-16 02:35:27 UTC
Reminds me somewhat of bug 206974 which. Subscribing Aurelien Gateau, as he is the employed master of the libindicate patches. ;-)
Comment 8 Tim Kuip 2009-11-16 07:15:52 UTC
For me this bug occurred directly after the upgrade for kde 4.3.3 in
kubuntu 9.10. I am using several imap accounts in kmail.

Workaround: move away ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail

Then KMail will start again (at least for me).

Stefan: the right workaround is to delete ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/search/Last\ search
This worked for me at least

Davide: you are right. Deleting ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/search/Last\ search is enough to fix this. I see this bug with KMAil 1.12.3 as well.
Comment 15 Davide Ferrari 2009-12-04 09:31:51 UTC
It happens with 1.12.4 as well (just upgraded to KDE SC 4.3.4)

KMail 1.12.4

Deleting "~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/search/Letzte\ Suche" works!

Thanks!

$kmail --version
Qt: 4.6.2
«KDE Development Platform»: 4.4.1 (KDE 4.4.1)
KMail: 1.13.1

I have 2 IMAP accounts (Gmail and Microsoft Exchange Server). To reproduce de error:
When program stops responding while syncronizing and you close it, it crashes at startup.

Deleting "~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/search/Última\ cerca" works!

Thanks!

The trace does not look like it's libindicate specific and I can't reproduce it on Ubuntu Lucid (kmail 1.13.2, kdelibs 4.4.2). On the other hand, my version of KMail does not seem to remember last search on restart, maybe this is related?
Comment 34 Thomas McGuire 2010-04-19 15:16:42 UTC
I doubt this has anything to do with libindicate.

Interesting. I tried a few times and still can't reproduce it anymore.

I use the Kubuntu packages announced here <http://www.kubuntu.org/node/157>, on a 64 bit system.
Comment 64 Murz 2010-07-13 13:30:29 UTC
I have Kubuntu Lucid AMD64 with KDE 4.5 PPA too, with latest updates.
How to reproduce:
1. Open Kmail
2. Tools > Find messages
3. Type "Complete Message" contains "test", press "Search"
4. Press "Open Search Folder"
5. File > Quit
6. Start Kmail again and I got the crash.
Comment 65 Malte S. Stretz 2010-07-13 13:52:38 UTC
Works here. But I see another weird thing, KMail is renaming/removing the search folders randomly. I actually saw it first in comment #63: I created a Search Folder named test and exited. After I restarted Kmail, I had two Search Folders: test and Test. Well, I didn't have enough coffee yet, so I discarded it as a personal brainfuck. I removed both the folders.

Now I tested it again and kept the Last Search folder name, restarted KMail, and I suddenly had my old folder called test again. With the old search settings. WTF?

So I removed test again, did another search called Last Search, shut down KMail and had a look at the ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/search directory:

mss@Otherland:~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/search$ cat Last\ Search
[Search Folder]
Base=.1081015519.directory/INBOX
Recursive=true
contentsA=testest
fieldA=<message>
funcA=contains
name=<unknown>
operator=and
rules=1

So far so good. Now I restarted KMail and had no Search Folder at all! The file Last Search was removed from the harddisk as well.

Something is very odd around here. But KMail doesn't crash.
Comment 66 Malte S. Stretz 2010-07-13 14:09:00 UTC
I opened bug 244489 about the problem I see. Guess that bug somehow fixes/works around the crash here.

kontact (4.4.6) on KDE Platform 4.5.1 (KDE 4.5.1) using Qt 4.7.0

Crashes every time when starting KMail or Kontact. Problem is new, & I'm not sure what config options I've changed (no system update, IIRC) - judging by the stack trace, I wonder if I left a search/filter open when I last closed the program, and KMail's attempt to recreate it at startup is crashing.

Reproducible with KMail 1.13.6, Kontact 4.4.10 on Kubuntu 11.04.

Reopen please.

Sorry, KMail 1.x bugs won't be reopened as there is noone maintaining it anymore.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=258623#c14 seems to help according to one of the comments.

OK, could somebody then set it to WONTFIX?

The workaround works, btw.
Comment 131 Christophe Marin 2011-10-08 17:39:43 UTC
