Could you please state your distribution and/or updates that cause this issue? *** Bug 372278 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** (In reply to Christoph Feck from comment #1) > Could you please state your distribution and/or updates that cause this > issue? Linux Mint 17.2 Rafaela I have tended to do updates maybe once a week or fortnight. I'm not sure as to which update may have caused Akonadi to stop working. *** Bug 372462 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** (In reply to Christoph Feck from comment #4) > *** Bug 372462 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** my distribution is debian 8. kmail started to fail immediately after I installed the lsb-core package as requested by message of apt-get dist-upgrade to make operative google-earth. This is a known issue with MySQL and certain distribution setups. You can workaround it by creating a file ~/.config/akonadi/mysql-local.conf with the following line: secure_file_priv= (yup, there's nothing after the "=") Then MySQL should start as expected. Thanks Daniel, I tried but this does not work for me. I have have also updated the system (apt-get dist-update has detected some update for akonadi), but without effects (kmail always returns the same error as before). Same report for me on KDE 5, Kubuntu 16.10 up to date. Daniel's workaround not worked for me either. Using "aconadictl start" gives me : titi@TiTi-MSI-GT70-2OC:~$ sudo akonadictl start Starting Akonadi Server... done.
