Is there a workaround I can use for this, while it's not fixed? Some change in configuration files or anything? It's really annoying having to configure the columns in message list panel every time I open kmail. Another info: I was using KMail embedded in Kontact. Now I've opened it stand alone to see if it would behave differently. In stand alone mode, the columns I select are remembered when I close and reopen KMail, but their order and width are not remembered. Also, now I can't open KMail embedded in Kontact anymore. When I open Kontact, it opens KMail in a separate window. If I close it and then go to another KMail function (address book, organizer) and then go back to mail, it again reopens KMail in a separate window. Should I file another bug for this other issue? Thanks. The problem of KMail not opening embedded in Kontact was solved after a reboot. The bug originally reported persists. More info: the columns are not remembered when KMail is embedded in Kontact and Kontact is configured to display an application different than KMail on start up. If Kontact starts up showing KMail, it remembers which columns were opened when it was closed and their width, but not their order. This is true also if KMail is opened as a stand alone application: it remembers which columns are opened and their width, but not their order. *** Bug 184271 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** It looks like a duplicate of bug 182784. The first and second issues reported in bug 182784 are the same indeed. The third issue doesn't happen to me. The fourth looks like bug 178402, but in my machine the configured font colours are applied correctly. Bold is not, however. *** Bug 186717 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 186841 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** The fact that column order doesnt stored very annoying. It is a huge usability problem. Is it so hard to fix? *** Bug 187073 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** I'm currently reordering bugs and thus changing summaries as well. This bug now is only about the upgrade problem (all columns showing). For other message-view related problems please check the following bugs: - bug 142609 - bug 181794 - bug 178402 - bug 187217 *** Bug 188021 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 188486 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Actually if you right-click and select show default columns the problem is solved temporarily. I also leave kmail loaded in tray icon, so i rarely lose my configuration. So mr. marcelo sales, till an upgrade fixes that, you may save the kmail conf file (maybe kmailrc, i will check and send you) in another location and make a script that overwrites the original before you load kmail. Only if you do want the default columns (not my case). Even then, they are displayed in the default order (not what I want neither). I've downgraded to KDE 4.1.x for now, but thanks for the suggestion. Bug is still here in 4.2.4 (Upgrade: 3.5.10 -> 4.2.2 -> 4.2.4). Any better workaround? I can confirm this is still an issue on vivid vervet using kmail 4.14.2 Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report. KMail2 was released in 2011, and the entire code base went through significant changes. We are currently in the process of porting to Qt5 and KF5. It is unlikely that these bugs are still valid in KMail2. We welcome you to try out KMail 2 with the KDE 4.14 release and give your feedback. |
