I am using disconnected IMAP on a notebook, and frequently am without network access. Overall, kmail works very well for my purposes.

However, whenever I disconnect from the network, I get 'Timeout Error' dialog boxes come up. This gets quite annoying, as I disconnect from the network many times a day. If connect again before I get around to closing the dialogs, right clicking on the kmail system tray icon doesn't work, annoying me further. (I normally right click on the tray icon, instead of hunting up the main kmail window in one of my workspaces.)

So... I propose that all network errors are only shown in a dialog box when they report a failure of the user's explicit command. All others should be reported in the status bar. For example, if the user gives the 'Send Now' command, a dialog should be given if the mail was not sent. Or, if the user gives the 'Check Mail' command, give a dialog should the connection be dropped before the mail check was completed. However, don't bother the user if a connection was dropped after the mail has been retrieved, or if an interval mail check fails.

I think that this is all that stands in the way of kmail becoming my perfect offline-capable email client.

Agree. It is most annoying when preparing letters to be send while offline.
