Description Alexandra Stehman 2004-03-03 21:49:21 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.1)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

There are a plethora of other bugs that look related but which have been closed. I see things in kmenuedit which should have been in the start apps menu from the very first boot after install, but have never shown up. If I hadn't ever gone into kmenuedit, I wouldn't have even known they were supposed to be there. I always thought it was so inconvenient that new applications I installed did not show up in the menu. Well, the kmenueditor knows about them - the actual menu component is not reading the correct list (must be caching it somewhere).

I found this not problem already with SusE 8.2 and KDE 3.1.1

SuSE has there own KMenu and that is the one you get after install.
Somewhere in the Kcontrol you can choose between SuSE and KDE menu.
When I remember well it was on a page with tabs. I cant do it now after the update to 3.2.0. It is something done by kbase3-suse package and I had to uninstall it. The SuSU help is thereby also gone in Khelpcenter :(

I Found in the past SuSE installs some packs for/from KDE only in one of the menus but also SuSE packs only in the KDE Menu and not in the SuSE menu.
If the SuSE Menu is the current menu and you install 3 party packs they can exist only in the KDE menu. I tried a program to install more then once because Yast does not say if there was success or not and I could not find it.
Later I found this dual menu by accident and switched it over.
All those programs and other stuff apears in the now KDE menu.

Hope this give some info

Ron

BTW I was already happy to find 3.2.0 at SuSE.
The first time I had a look and try to install it was even not complete.
Missing kbase3-suse and taglib.
SuSE help for not KDE related programs in the help center is gone.
Parts of it are also removed with the uninstal of the old kbase3-suse(8.2)
There is a kbase3-suse(9.0) but I know that one is messing up the menu again with new groupnames. The changed Internet to Network.

Are you still experiencing this issue on the new KDE 3.5.10 or, better, KDE 4?

Old bug report and can't reproduce using KDE SC 4.9. Feel free to reopen the report if the problem still exists in recent version.
