Description Aleksey Nogin 2004-02-19 22:57:04 UTC
Version: 3.2 (using KDE KDE 3.2.0)
Installed from: RedHat RPMs
OS: Linux

Currently, a ToDo event with a start date and a due date is shown in the "timeless" events part of the screen - but only for its dues date. It seems that it would be more consistent to show it for all the dates from start to deadline - e.g. display it the exact same way as a multi-day timeless event would be displayed, except add a checkmark to it.

P.S. In case you disagree that my proposal is necessarily "the right thing to do", please consider this to be a wish request for a configuration option controlling this. Thank you!

P.P.S. Se also bug 71600 which asks for a configuration option to not show ToDos in "timeless events" subwindow at all (this is the opposite of what I am asking for, but we both want to make such display more configurable).

That's actually a wish...

Another wish (107850) wants these to-dos to appear only today (unless it's overdue).

Cheers,
Reinhold

If a ToDo is marked with one date it will only show on that date - simply set the Start Date as the same as the Due Date. There is no point in offering a Start Date if it is not to function as a reminder. By the final due date it is already too late if the task is not trivial.
Comment 7 Rudolf Kollien 2005-07-25 13:14:45 UTC
To Comment #4: As i'm the reporter of bug #107850, i would agree with the wish from Aleksey. It isn't important, if the todo is shown as a singel day event (shown "today") or as a multi-day timeless event. In my opinion it is only important, that i'm reminded _before_ the definded end date of the todo.
Comment 8 C.Anne Wilson 2005-07-25 13:20:15 UTC
I agree that the reminder is the important thing, and I don't much care how it's achieved, as long as it is clearly visible in the diary-type pages for the period from the Start Date until either the Due Date or being marked as Completed.

I would consider this to be a *Bug*, not a Wish. It doesn't make sense to get a notification to do something after it is too late.

So, if you've indicated a Start Date, that is when you should be notified. If you have a project that is going to take 2 weeks to do (start date = due date - 2 weeks), but you are only notified when the project is due, it is too late!

Reassigning all KOrganizer bug reports and wishes to the newly created
korganizer-devel mailing list.

I have version 4.4.9-2.3.1, and Start still seems to achieve nothing. My vote definitely goes with those who'd like to be alerted when action is needed rather than too late.
