Description Peter Johnson 2003-07-10 17:55:06 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1.2)
Installed from: Unspecified Linux
OS: Linux

This happens under normal conditions my version of REDHAT 9.0 was downloaded from the REDHAT website and KsCD came with it. I dont know if this is a factor but its driving me nuts please help if you can.

Correct CD volume? Is your CD player connected to your soundcard? Do other CD
player application work?
Comment 2 Peter Johnson 2003-07-16 17:24:43 UTC
My CD Player is conected to my Soundcard, I have removable Drives on my system
and when I use my Windows drive every thing is fine my Realone player works,
and the Windows media player also works, I did try to get round the problem by
downloading and installing the Linux version of the Realone player but this
just freezes on the screen when I try to use it.

Do other CD Player applications in Linux work?

Windows has the so-called digital mode in which it extracts the PCM from the CD and sends it
to the sound card. The Linux equivalent of that would be to play the .wav files that you see in
audiocd:/.

Real CD Players instead just ask the CD drive to play -- there's no processor time involved.

Subject: Re: KsCD plays the cd but there is no sound, I am using REDHAT Linux 9.0 and there is sound on my system

My CD Player is conected to my sound card, I have removable caddys on my system and if I take my Redhat 9 hard drive out and use my Windows hard drive my Real one Player works and so does the Windows Media player.

I have downloaded and installed the (Unix - Linux) version of Realone Player but this just freezes when I try to access it.

Regards & Thanks : Peter Johnson

With Suse 9.0 I have the same problem. No sound while KsCD is playing. Other Soundengines do work best.
Comment 6 christian chevalier 2004-04-07 11:30:05 UTC
Same problem with Mandrake 9.2.
Kscd have never worked on my Linux box and I have tried with Mandrake 8.1, 8.2, 9.0, 9.1, 9.2.
Can anyone use it ?
It boring to be forced to boot on a Windows drive to play a CD !
Comment 7 Alex Kern 2004-05-15 18:43:38 UTC
have you access to CVS version of KDE, if yes, please try the latest version of kscd, you will have an ability to switch to CDDA. Please try it.

Same problem on my Sony Vaio PCG-GR370 laptop with DVD/CDRW combo drive. CDS play fine with XMMS, but no sound comes out at all with KsCD. When I switched it to digital audio extraction it had some extremely painful choppy sputtery barely recognizable version of the audio. I'm willing to do some testing if someone will point me in the right direction...

I am using MEPIS 2.6.7 and KsCD comes up fine but no audio. However, in Linspire 2.4.24 the KsCD provided works. Being a newbie, I don't know how to find the difference to correct it in MEPIS. Haven't tried other CD Players.
Where would i find the versions of drivers installed in each system?
Thanks,
vince

I am also affected with KsCD 1.6 on my openSUSE 11.0 system. When will this application not be silent any more?

(In reply to comment #17)

I have noticed that the application “vlc 3.0.4-4.10” can play music from a selected CD drive while the application “KsCD 17.08.3-1.2” gives the information that no CD would have been detected.
There are still open issues to consider for the corresponding device selection.

Examples:
* kscd fails to detect audio CD in cd drive
  2005-10-27
  https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=115177

* Make selecting another CD-ROM device easier
  2004-10-08
  https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=90976

* kscd could autodetect cdrom devices and have many devices

Thank you for reporting this issue in KDE software. As it was reported on an older version, can we please ask you to see if you cazn reproduce the issue with a more recent software version?

If you can confirm this issue still exists in a recent version, please change the version field and the status to "REPORTED" when replying. Thank you!
