Description John E 2018-05-18 03:35:49 UTC
Hello,

I am not sure what triggers this, but sometime the systray becomes partially useless. I can click on any icon or the arrow and interact with them, but no extra panel will be seen, say I can click on the bluetooth icon but no bluetooth panel will be seen although there is a little blue line appearing on top of the icon... I am not sure if the panel is not popping up, or if it is but hidden/somewhere else.

Usually I restart my computer/ Plasma to fix it, but while writing this bug I unlocked the widgets in the panel, removed one, relocked the widgets, and strangely systray is working fine again.

I am on Arch Linux, Plasma 5.12.5, frameworks 5.46 but this has happened for a while, maybe 6 months or more, so it's nothing related to those exact releases.
I'm on X11 with 4 virtual desktops if it matters.
I am not sure anymore, but it is possible that the issue only happens when I have Kodi opened full screen on a virtual desktop. I often have it open even if not playing anything so it may be unrelated or not, just thought I would mention it.

Please ask for any information needed.

Thank you!

Do you happen to use the "minimize all" plasmoid or shortcut or something like that?
Comment 2 Kai Uwe Broulik 2018-05-18 06:32:06 UTC
could also be Bug 394397
Comment 3 Kai Uwe Broulik 2018-05-18 06:32:20 UTC
I mean Bug 390858
Comment 4 John E 2018-05-18 07:03:00 UTC
I don't use this plasmoid. I usually move through desktops with ctrl-f{1..4} but also at times use the mouse with pager.

As for Bug 390858 I don't know since it mentions compositor off while I have not turned it off but it could have crashed without me noticing maybe. On the other hand, I've had the issue mentioned as well in the past and would fix it by logging out from Konsole using qdbus, so maybe it's related. I have not noticed that in a while though.

I can reproducibly trigger this in the following manner on Plasma 5.12.4:

1. Have Dropbox installed
2. Right-click on arrow > System Tray Settings > Entries > mark Dropbox as Hidden
3. Click on Ok button
4. Plasmashell crashes (Bug 394729)
5. After plasma re-launches, quit and restart Dropbox
6. Right-click on the System Tray arrow > System Tray Settings
7. Dropbox has disappeared from this list! (Bug 361613)
8. Click Ok
9. Click on the System Tray arrow
10. Click on it again

Now the expanded pop-up no longer closes on the second click. Sometimes it doesn;t open, either, but that part isn't 100% reproducible for me.

The issue disappears if I remove dropbox's entry from ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc and restart plasmashell.

Looks like this is actually Bug 393630.

While it may very well be the same root cause, I would like to note that I never had the issue of not being able to close/hide that panel as far as I can remember.

Strangely, since as common as this bug used to be, since I've made that bug report I have not had any symptom... I haven't restarted X/Plasma in a while so I'll do that later in case something good is stuck right now.
