I have a panel on the right side of the left screen. Even if I set the panel "Always visible" it behaves as "Window do under". See the image linked. I would like to have this like 2 years ago, it is annoying and works in windows :) (Gnome has the same problem eather) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. create a vertical panel on dual monitor setup, in the middle 2. maximize a window 3. the window goes under the panel :( ! Actual Results: the window goes under the panel :( ! Expected Results: the window should be smaller, to not go under the panel. The behavior of the bottom panel is correct, and this should be the same for the vertical panel.

I made some tests and realize that it aways happend on the panel that are on the side of the screen that joint with the other screen.
yes, exactly, your description is better.
Same problem here but with a bottom horizontal panel. Maximized windows go under panel regardless of settings. Dual screen set up, Kubuntu 13.04, KDE 4.11
Solved my issue. The program kscreen was held back during the update to KDE 4.11. Once I installed the current version (kscreen 1.0) and rebooted the problem was corrected.
I use kscreen 1.0.1, but still have this problem (under Ubuntu 13.10). Qt: 4.8.4 KDE Development Platform: 4.11.3 KWin: 4.11.2 Plasma Desktop Shell: 4.11.2

Hi, It seems the same issue... the window goes under the vertical panel on maximizing (see v-baskoff_desktop screenshot in the attachments) I am using two monitor setup. Right one(27" 1920x1080) is main, the left one(15" 1024x768) is additional, mostly for "yakuake" console Are there any chances to workaround/fix this? kUbuntu 13.04 plasma 4.10.5 kwin 4.10.5 kscreen 1.0.1 qt 4.8.4

I am having this issue too. Kubuntu 13.10, KDE 4.12
The same on the OpenSUSE... and it's really annoying!!
Also happens with 2 screens above and below.
This mainly happens when you have two screens, and one of them has a bigger height (i.e. vertical). When you align the one with default panel to the top of second display (with bigger height) bug disappears, but of course this configuration is hard to use.
It happens also if the displays have the same size. Since clearly nobody cares about this disturbing bug, I would be willing to fix it myself, just please give me some points what source should I download and some directions where to look.
Isn't this a dupe of bug #94470 (and bug #299247 ) ?
This is a duplicate of https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=167852
It is impossible to say for most people if this is a duplicate https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=299247 since the description on bug #299247 is complete opaque and not understandable to anyone who isn't in some inner circle.
Multiple monitors is VERY common and this bug prevents people from maximizing application windows which is a pain in the ass. This is a usability issue. I'm not sure why this hasn't even been assigned.
RESOLVED WONTFIX https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94470
(In reply to Victor Varvaryuk from comment #19) > RESOLVED WONTFIX https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94470 can I ask why is this critical error wotfix?? I am willing to do it myself, just please give me some directions where to start.
Please ask Martin Gräßlin here https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94470#c57
20freaking15 (that's two years and 3 months and after the start of this thread) and this bug is still happening. My windows are still going under the panel on KDE 5.4. Man, I left KDE in favor of gnomeshell 3 years ago because of stuff like this. It's 2015, I really wanted to give KDE a chance but your stuff is so unstable. I like KDE more then Gnome but in the month I've used KDE, I've had more bugs then I had in the last 3 years of using Gnome Shell and I started using Gnome Shell because KDE was unstable 3 years ago at 4. Guys, stop adding new features in KDE and iron out those bugs instead. The value you add by putting these new features get negated by all the bugs that aren't being addressed. This bug isn't even the worst example of old bugs completely unresolved, I got bugs on my 2015 distro that I've found bug reports from 2011. They got ignored, flagged as unconfirmed.
sorry, I must have hit that comment button twice. didn't want to spam, just really frustrated.
I also got fed of all of this. Out 47 bugs reported by me https://bugs.kde.org/buglist.cgi?bug_status=UNCONFIRMED&bug_status=CONFIRMED&bug_status=ASSIGNED&bug_status=REOPENED&f1=reporter&list_id=1310770&o1=equals&order=changeddate%2Cpriority%2Cbug_severity&query_based_on=&query_format=advanced&v1=victor.varvariuc%40gmail.com 29 are still unconfirmed and none are resolved. It's a sad state of a project mad efor fun... Waiting for my next macbook.
Never seen it with plasma 4, but now I keep having it on my laptop with plasma 5. Anything I could try out to fix it?
Same problem here on dual monitors.
yes it's present in Kde 5 as well. Finally I found a workaround. Install the tint2 panel, and place one 1 pixel high and the same width as the plasma panel. This is able to keep the windows from covering it, and therefore they will not cover the kde panel either.
I have the same exact problem with kde5 with manjaro, dual monitor. Never had something similar while using kde4... Considering is open since more than 2years maybe it's time someone set a higher priority on this.
> I have the same exact problem with kde5 with manjaro, dual monitor. Never had something > similar while using kde4... Ditto here, with Chakra. Wasn't a problem with Plasma 4.
Could someone please change the Product to plasmashell on this issue since people are confirming this as existing (or even worse) in Plasma 5? Or do we need to open a new issue?
Same here with dual monitor setup. Tried changing settings and moving panel up and down. Didn't help.
For me, this bug only triggers when the panel is placed between the monitors. If I move it from the right side of the left screen to the left side of left screen everything is OK. Same thing applies to the right monitor in the inverse. This is supposedly a limitation in X that requires panels to be flush against an absolute edge.
I think panels are having a lot of problems with absolute/relative edges with external monitors Look what happens when I click on the menu widget (this is my external monitor)... the menu should pop up right above the panel as usual (and this correctly happens when I just use the main screen of my laptop) but, instead, it pops a lot higher than expected without reasons before click http://imgur.com/1x5a18l after click http://imgur.com/bdk4CaE
Is anyone looking into this? It's an almost 3 year old "major" bug. It's highly irritating because many applications have a statusbar or other elements at the bottom which gets hidden if maximized. So I have to manually adjust the height of the window to see it. But if I do that, the window gets "de-maximized", making it impossible to just slam my mouse cursor to the top-right and click to close it (breaking Fittz law).
Btw, the monitor/screen layout I'm using is: xrandr --output DP2-2 --mode 2560x1440 --primary --output eDP1 --mode 1920x1080 --left-of DP2-2 That is, the laptop panel (eDP1) to the left of my external monitor (DP2-2), which is my primary output.
Kubuntu 16.04, two monitors, one on the right and one on the left. I like a vertical taskbar on the left of the left screen. When I maximize stuff, it goes under the taskbar. AARGHH.

Ok, here's what just happened, which appears to be a bug with the bug tracking system here. I hit post on the first one, realized my left / right mistake, hit the "stop" button on my browser, edited, re-posted. I was sent to the "mid-air collision detected" screen where there was an option called something like "post only my new post" and that sounded right. Seems it didn't work.
Arch linux, plasma 5.6.4. The bug is still here. With dual monitors, when a panel is attached to the edge between the monitors, the windows go under that panel, no matter what the panel settings are.
Gentoo, 4.14.16. Run into at least one of these bugs. It was triggered when I moved the smaller display to the left, but no matter what positioning I now try, the bug remains. Trying to get used to working without maximizing any windows. Maximizing was nice, been using it for 30 years or so. Oh well.
same here. dual monitor setup with panel on the left edge. the bug started to occur when upgrading from ubuntu 15.10 to 16.04
Same here, currently I keep my laptop in front of my external monitor and have set it up to be above the laptop monitor. Windows go under the bottom panel. I have tried just disabling the laptop monitor, although I sometimes need it or arranging screens horizontally although physically they are arranged vertically. Very annoying. If wayland worked with dual monitor, I'd just be using that but it still seems quite far from being usable.
Same here with 4 screens. I think it is because one screen has a different resolution.
I had the same problem with my laptop (1600*900) on kubuntu 16.04 and an external screen (1920*1080). I was able to solve the problem by setting the external screen as primary display in the displaysettings
Hello, I'm experiencing the same issue but I do not have a dual monitor setup (although I did have one at a point so it might still be related?). When I log in (sometimes?) the panel which is set as vertical on the left side overlaps maximized windows. I.e. I log in and if I start Firefox which opens up maximized, the left side of Firefox will be under the panel. If I unlock the panel and go to its settings and resize it just a bit it, the windows maximize to the panel's edge as they should. Maybe this helps with debugging. Thank you
Should I check if there is another bug for Plasma5? I have the same issue being described here, running Gentoo unstable AMD64, seemingly having Plasma and KDE applications installed of version 16.12.0. I have a dual monitor setup, where they are of slightly different resolutions. I have the panel on the smaller screen. If one places the window above where the panel ends, on the larger screen, the window can be moved there. If one tries to move it to anywhere in the same horizontal plane(?) as the panel, then the window being dragged jumps to the bottom.
I happily realized that finally, since I updated to the Fedora 25 this issue was fixed (plasma 5.8 currently, maybe already in 5.6) Now it works as supposed to, if I set always visible, windows don't go above or below.
Hi, Unfortunately version 5.8.5 not fully resolve problem. With panel "Always visible" when i move window over panel windows disappear under screen edge. With panel "windows can cover" problem not occurs but then my windows hide under panel. Attach movie which describes it: https://youtu.be/lIQZH0dv9_A xrandr Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 3600 x 1080, maximum 16384 x 16384 DP-1 connected 1920x1080+1680+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 521mm x 293mm 1920x1080 60.00*+ 59.94 50.00 DP-4 connected 1680x1050+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 470mm x 300mm 1680x1050 59.88 + 59.95*
I have the same issue with KDE Apps 17.04.1, Plasma 5.9.5, KF 5.34.0 using Wayland: The panel at the top screen edge is rendered on top of Yakuake, making the upper part of the console unusable. This worked fine with X11.
https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=289&t=128976 This forum topic does a good job of explaining the problem I have it as well.
