Jeremy, the RTM crash could be introduced by commits around 993c568359b79c237d1590d413956e6d30a8adc4

Do you still know the code a bit to investigate why it crashes?

I would also suggest to make the 'frob' lookup asynchronous, so it does not need a nested event loop, which can cause weird crashes. See bug 314016 and bug 325556.

In case there is no connection, it also causes Plasma to hang forever, see bug 322431.

Same issue affecting me when RTM applet is added to the desktop.
I have to delete ".kde/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc" and log in again in order plasma to load again. Of course, I loose all desktop settings...

plasma-desktop (4.12.2) on KDE Platform 4.13.0 using Qt 4.8.2

- What I was doing when the application crashed:

Logged in and kde was already crashed (didn't seem to be particularly related to anything on the desktop as no programs had been started).

- Unusual behavior I noticed:

Starting network-manager and then google chrome caused plasma desktop to reset itself.

Comment 47 Nate Graham 2018-06-08 18:29:55 UTC
Hello!

This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug has already been resolved in Plasma 5.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report. If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!

Nate Graham
