Version: 4.7 (using KDE 4.7.3) OS: Linux i have searched the bugzilla with "lock screen netbook workspace" keywords but it returned 0 results, so i'm posting the problem i have. (in Kubuntu 11.10 32bit - KDE 4.7.3 Netbook workspace mode) Clicking the LOCK BUTTON(on-top-bar) to lock the screen does not work ; neither does right clicking(near widgets)+lock screen and ctrl+alt+L ; i found it strange and tried also other shortcuts like ctrl+esc to bring up the system activity. None of these seemed to work for me, i'd like to specify that i encountered this problem on a very fresh install of kubuntu (both before & after updating the packages). Checked the daemon for the keyshortcuts too and it was up and running. As final test (in the same session) i have switched from netbook workspace mode to classic workspace and confirmed it was working perfectly in the classic workspace. thus i think there should be some problem related to the netbook workspace mode that somehow hinibits these functions. i'm currently using the classic workspace to avoid that. i hope my report will be of any help to solve this for the sake of all :-) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1) fresh install kubuntu 11.10 32bit 2) log in with the netbook workspace mode 3) click the lock screen button on the top bar OR ctr+alt+L OR right click+lockscreen 4) screen lock does not work Actual Results: it actually happens nothing at all Expected Results: the screen should have locked no additional information, very standard computer o.s. setup, out of the box
Confirmed for 4.7.4 with bug 268437 and bug 251434 as similar bugs.
..But in 4.8.3, all seems to work for me. Do you still experience this bug?
I still encounter this bug using KDE 4.8.5 on openSUSE 12.2. If I use the right click menu to lock or even a widget added on top of the search and launch, nothing happens. Though I can use the same widget and menu to access the log out prompt. However, It seems if I activate krunner though run command all of a sudden the lock screen works. I have a video here demonstrating it: http://youtu.be/N94dPY3csTo
Can confirm that the behaviour is present under openSuSE 12.2 and KDE 4.8.5, and also that the behaviour changes when I enable krunner in Systemsettings
