It would be nice if k3b moved away from requiring transcode for encoding DVDs, as the upstream project is mostly dead. I'm not really sure what can be used instead, but I guess ffmpeg/libav can do mostly everything transcode can. I sadly do not have the coding skill to help, but it's a move that should be considered.

I agree. Also see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/k3b/+bug/1099201. There are errors/bugs related to transcode.

No one implemented a replacement after more than 6 years.
Make sure users are not presented with a completely broken option.
