Description jos poortvliet 2011-03-05 21:00:44 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.6.0)
OS: Linux

Resizing and in general playing with the progress dialogs and notifications from the systray shows a whole bunch of layout errors. Some of these are very annoying: if you try to resize the progress dialog to see exactly where a file is coming from, well, just forget about that (if the dialog is small it shows ... in the middle of the path).

In the meantime, there IS a awesome (as in utterly useless) speed graph build in. Useless because fscking linux (that OS we probably all run) almost entirely blocks on IO anyway - but that's for another rant.

See screenshots. I tried making a screencast but that didn't work (grrrrrr) - the screenshots show some issues but playing with the widget a while shows them too. :D

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
try to resize the thing. Observe the sillyness - sometimes it just jumps back, sometimes it resizes but leaves an empty space to the right. Try to collapse the items, then bring em back and see some wonderful overlaps happen. Combine resizing, colapsing, etc etc - enjoy all the weird things you can do. Well, at least it doesn't crash - stability in Plasma 4.6.1 is actually really good...

Actual Results:
everything except a really wider progress dialog = still no room for the info you want...

Expected Results:
a properly resized window not showing information outside of it's background etc

default widget style, taskbar on the left. Similar issues with taskbar on the bottom but slightly less bad (see screenshots)

(obviously the zip file contains screenshots of weird stuff; and the file itself is just fine)

Well, the layout ain't that horrible anymore but resizing is still very much broken :(

Close button ("X") overlapping notification boundaries on the right side is still sometimes reproducible in 4.8.97.

Just sorted the plasma notification reported in a different more meaningful way.
I mark this as a Duplicate of Bug 258648 which is more specific to the main issue addressed in this report, i.e. the resizing issue.

The clipping issue you showed in your screen shots and which I mentioned above is covered by Bug 290119.

More issues regarding layout issues on plasma notification popups are collected by Meta Bug 304028.
