The best think to do (if you don't want to compile compiz by yourself, which I'd not recommend) is to open a bug with your distribution (against their compiz package) and point them to the link above to include the patch into their packages. They should know what to do with it. If your want to compile yourself, just grab compiz 0.8.6 from http://releases.compiz.org/0.8.6/ and compile it, it already includes the fix. However, I would not recommend to do that unless you know exactly what you're doing.

I have a question on this issue... its been a while and its definately not solved for me... on the original post it says: "i was changing from KWIN to Compiz in the Window Manager tab, changing back to KWIN does not report an error" I just cant find that mentioned "Windows Manager" tab... Ive been looking for a week now and its simply not anywhere... I even uninstalled compiz, but the problem remains...

In that case, you didn't uninstall it completely. kde4-window-decorator is part of the compiz packages, the package is called compiz-kde in most distros, I think.
