Version: (using KDE 4.3.1) Installed from: Ubuntu Packages It would save much time if the sound clip preview controls were overlayed on top of the icon as opposed to being in the sidebar.

I was thinking about asking for same feature :) It is very well implemented in OS X 10.6. You can preview/view any video/audio directly form file manager. Preview size = size of icons, so you can extend it as much as you want up to 512*512. Clicking on on playing video/audio opens it at exact place as it was on preview, so making continuous playback :) But i guess it is another idea, to integrate any media player
I liked the audio preview function that was available in Konq in KDE3.5 and earlier. That functionality let me hear just the first few notes of an audio file, simply by hovering the mouse cursor over the file. Could we have that functionality back, without buttons or extra messing about? It played in an embedded part, so it wasn't necessary to have an extra (perhaps unwanted) app start up, or click anything.
Very much in favour.

I try not to mark old bugs as duplicates of new bugs, but in this case I will make an exception because there is a new bug with an in-progress patch that implements this feature: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=378613 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 378613 ***
