Options are great. I have some ideas to get this and other functionality without being disruptive, as this behavior would be disruptive to most workflows... Maybe more configuration of hover behavior could be cool. I know that I normally don't want pictures and things to show up when I moving my mouse about. Another alternative to get functionality is: Aaron Siego and I talked about combining some of the icon action capability from gwenview into dolphin. Perhaps hovering over the "little icon" that could hypothetically show up if the item is playable could be configured to show this info. another little icon would be the selection toggle mini-icon. another little icon could be to open the file in an alternate registered. program, or with other options, such as in full screen (like gwenview does) In details view, all of these mini icons should have their own columns. It is logically consistent, and gets Nadav his preview behavior (as an add-on) and it allows for other neat functionality enhancements. I would say this bug depends on Bug 290846
