The steps in the description no longer cause a crash. Akregator: Version 1.5.3 (4:4.3.3-0ubuntu1~ppa1)
I just got the same crash using Akregator from KDE 4.3.3
Created attachment 38165 [details] Feed that triggers the crash for me This is the current planet kernel feed that I can use to trigger the crash. Works more or less as follows: -select "Hacking jabber clients" or "Deepavali" post. No body will show up. -select "mark all as read" -change to other feed Maybe you need to repeat some of the steps but you should rather fast get the crash.

From bug 220397: --- What I was doing when the application crashed: I was selecting articles with akregator for lateron background TAB reading and noticed that an article selected with a middle mouse click for backgroundTab reading (with 2 occurances in the article list) get not flagged as read. I tried middle clicking the 2nd occurance of that article but still the article get not flagged as read. Then I wanted to select some more articles for background tab reading from an other feed and than the Kontact crash occured

From bug 222918: -- What I was doing when the application crashed: After reading some newsitems from one feed I switched to an other feed and Kontact/Akregator crashed. Normally I select with a middle mouse click the articles that I want to read into the background tabs. I read the selected articles and delete them from the background tabs. After that or just before reading the articles I select most of the time all articles from the feed involved and flag them as read. After that I switch to an other feed and than very often Kontact/Akregator crashed. From bug 222140: -- What I was doing when the application crashed: I finished reading articles from one feed and selected an other feed to display article list and thanKontact/Akregator crashed. This time I have not used Ctrl-E to flag articles as read on the old feed, since I actually readed all articles from the old feed. Created attachment 48684 [details] New crash information added by DrKonqi even in kde 4.4.5 this bug still exist always same behaviour sometimes akregator displays as new duplicate articles already read when this situation occurs you can be sure to crash kontact just by going to another folder then back on these false new articles which display nothing but crash akregator
This issue has been resolved for me, I zipped up my .kde folder and re-installed KDE entirely (first having completely removed it). Now Akgregator works as expected. I can only assume it has something to do with the settings in the .kde directory.

[Comment from a bug triager] From bug 256515: - What I was doing when the application crashed: I was browsing through "unread" entries, one wouldn't show (remained unread, and also had a duplicate in the list) and the left panel showed -1 unread entries (were it should have shown 1, or 2, or at least 0...). When clicking on another directory and then back on the main directory (which I do every time I want to clear all read entries in the list), akregator crashed. This has been happening a lot, but I'm not sure how to reproduce it... Also, when I restart akregator, the buggy entry is marked as read. - Custom settings of the application: The "unread" filter is always on and entries are marked as read as soon as I open them.

only 2 crashes have been reported since the fix mentioned in comment 105 said that version 4.7.4 and above were fixed. both of those 2 crashes are for 4.7.2 so they are older than the fix. therefore, i submit that this bug has been fixed long ago.
