Description pipapo 2009-04-16 01:05:51 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

After upgrading to kde 4.2.2 and xorg in Debian middle click is no more working. Although it's working as expected in dolphin and other apps.
Comment 1 Antanas Uršulis 2009-04-16 22:18:37 UTC
Same behavior here on Gentoo with KDE 4.2.2 (built from official Portage tree), Xorg 1.6.0 (from x11 overlay)
Comment 2 Frank Reininghaus 2009-04-16 22:47:30 UTC
Thanks for the bug report. Could you please describe in what situation you tried to middle click (web browsing, file management,...), where you clicked and what behaviour you expected? Middle clicking works fine for everything I tried in Konqueror 4.2.2 (Kubuntu) and trunk.
Comment 3 Antanas Uršulis 2009-04-16 23:08:49 UTC
Actually, middle click doesn't do anything it should here. Precisely, middle clicking links to open in a new tab, same for folders in file browsing mode; middle clicking inside text boxes to paste. There is absolutely no reaction to the click.
Comment 4 Frank Reininghaus 2009-04-16 23:22:12 UTC
Thanks for the update. I can't reproduce this here (Konqueror 4.2.2 and trunk r954557 running on Kubuntu 8.10 with X.org 1.5.2, don't have a newer X.org to test).

As reported in bug 190145, it can easly be reproduced with arch linux, just upgrading the system. I use Konqueror Version 4.2.2 (KDE 4.2.2), xorg 1.6.1

As stated in my bugreport (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=190559), the middle mouse button does work, if you keep the settings dialog opened.
Also, in a fluxbox session it works too...

I can confirm that middle-clicking on folders and weblinks in Konqueror has no effect. I am using Kubuntu 9.04 (KDE 4.2.2) from a fresh install.

I'm also running Kubuntu 9.04 now like Dotan (not a fresh install though, I upgraded from 8.10), all versions are like in comment 10, but for me the issue is still not reproducible: middle-clicking works fine here.

I'm running the 32 bit-version, maybe that's what makes the difference?
Comment 12 Tommi Tervo 2009-04-25 14:51:30 UTC
I've 32b version of kubuntu 9.04 on my AAone and middle click doesn't work in konqueror. If I open konqueror remotely from AAONE to my desktop (rhel5), then mmb works fine. Fredrikh wanted to know if that click will enter to qt event loop at all, but I don't remember that file/function name where to put break point.
Comment 13 Tommi Tervo 2009-04-25 15:44:14 UTC
Hmm, I found (accidentally) this post, could someone check that gestures are not enabled? I cannot test this until at monday.

Comment 14 Dotan Cohen 2009-04-25 16:53:37 UTC
Tommi is right, Konqueror Gestures were enabled in System Settings -> Input Actions. Disabling Konqueror Gestures enabled middle click for folders and links. I did not configure this setting manually. Either it is set be default or something is setting it.
Comment 15 Panagiotis Papadopoulos 2009-04-25 16:57:27 UTC
I can confirm this:
If I disable this setting it works again
Comment 16 Frank Reininghaus 2009-04-26 00:19:25 UTC
I can reproduce this now on Kubuntu 9.04 by adding a new user. Also the workaround (disabling "Konqueror Gestures" in Systemsettings/Input Actions) works. The khotkeysrc of my "old" user contains a "Disabled=true" entry in the "[Gestures]" section, maybe that's why I couldn't reproduce it before. Mouse gestures do not seem to work though, even if they are enabled.

I'll CC a khotkeys developer because khotkeys is responsible for gestures as far as I know. I do not know if enabling Konqueror gestures is actually meant to disable the usual middle-click things in Konqueror or if this is due to some bug in KDE or in the new X.org. If it's really meant to be like that, it might be a good idea to disable the gestures by default.
Comment 17 Simone Lazzaris 2009-04-27 10:27:03 UTC
I can confirm that the workaround (disable mouse gestures in kde settings) works on Arch Linux (32bit, by the way).
Also I report that the setting was not enabled my me; it can be a default value (or it was enabled in an upgrade).
Comment 18 pipapo 2009-04-27 22:49:08 UTC
I confirm the former reports. Disabling the gestures did the trick. I used the same way to get the middle-click back in ubuntu 9.04.

under 4.3 middle clicking works, even with activated gestures
Comment 22 Bruno Cornec 2009-07-04 18:15:05 UTC
After an update to KDE 4.2.4 on Mandriva 2009.1, same issue has been seen. However, if the tip does solve the problem for "ordinary" KDE applications (tellico, k3b, ...) it's *not* the case for konsole :-( I'm still unable to copy selected text from konsole to another window, as well as I'm not able to paste into a konsole using the middle button.

Any other idea of what I should desactivate to have it wor again ?
Comment 23 Dotan Cohen 2009-07-14 17:11:25 UTC
On KDE 4.3 RC2 I have noticed that even with Gestures enabled, middle clicking works. It looks like the issue is resolved.
Comment 24 Michael Jansen 2009-08-15 23:15:25 UTC
Fixed in 4.3.

@Michael: According to bug 212266, middle-click tab moving still does not work in 4.3.1 (Debian) if gestures are enabled (I can't confirm that with 4.3.1 on Opensuse though).
