Description albert 2008-03-20 13:16:52 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.0.2)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

If I dislike yellow background notes and I want to use pink background notes for my annotations, I have to change the properties of each inserted note. Idem for the other tools. This is annoying...
It would be nice to have a way to change the default setting of the review tools (maybe an entry in "settings" menu).
Comment 1 James Rivett-Carnac 2008-11-17 09:20:38 UTC
I Agree, and would like to extend that to all tools. LIke i like the green marker to be seethrough so i can read under my skribbles.
Comment 2 Patrick Fehr 2008-12-11 15:39:42 UTC
this is also in my interest.
and what is VERY VERY important: an UNDO Button/Function for review tools used!
Comment 3 Patrick Fehr 2008-12-11 15:50:31 UTC
a) also for the yellow notes: they are surprisingly not fit to the font size with some margin.
They seem to have always the same height, which is not reasonable.
b) The "pin" notes should be visible, when moving over them with the mouse.
c) the pin- and the yellow notes should both be MOVABLE after having been placed.

Open a new bug report, if you want (possibly without UPPERCASE WORDS, they just annoy, thanks).

> a) also for the yellow notes: they are surprisingly not fit to the font size
> with some margin.

If you just click, then the size is the minimum for the text.
Otherwise, you can drag a region when constructing them.

> b) The "pin" notes should be visible, when moving over them with the mouse.

A tooltip? Already there for any annotation.

> c) the pin- and the yellow notes should both be MOVABLE after having been
> placed.

Already done, hold Ctrl and drag any annotation.

Btw, these are offtopic for this bug, please ask user questions in user channels or in our mailing list.

First I would like to say, excellent job!!! I have been looking for a while a linux application that would let me comment pdf. Actually, I had given up to the idea...

Another thing that would be nice is if the for example I choose to use a tool, i.e. the yellow highlighter, I don't have to keep choosing it after commenting the document. It feels like I have to put more ink in the pen or something like that.

This particular settings -> configure review, should have the option of choosing a particular tool until a different tool is chosen or have it by default.
Comment 7 Ravi Arora 2009-09-09 15:28:14 UTC
+1 for this.

You have provided really great comparability through the properties options of the review tools like changing the colour and opacity. But I want to make permanent buttons for it so that next time I want to do the same its just there on the toolbar.

Next, please allow the shortcuts/gestures for review tools. Also allow the revie toolbar to be placed anywhere in the window so that it can be accessed at the nearest mouse position.

A global properties setting menu for eg. setting font-size of annotation text
or color of highlighting is still missing in okular 0.9.2.
I would also wish to have different style-profiles to be set there.

Can you please implement this?

I would like to see that too. +1 for me :)

I love the Review Tool, really. Thanks a lot. But changing configs is a bit tedious currently. It would be really amazing if there would be a configurable review tool-_bar_. I, for example, often need three differently colored markers.

Okular with the review tool is an absolute must for my digital library. Thanks again.
Comment 12 Dirk Wallenstein 2011-10-02 09:48:12 UTC
A bit more love invested here, and you could advertise it as a study tool instead of a review tool. IMHO a text one reads without coloring the important parts is a lost opportunity. Repetition stores to long term memory.

In using Okular program for school I have had to use the Reviews -> "Cyan Ellipse [9]" tool. Two things that seem off about this tool: firstly, the color is default to Cyan and can only change it after right clicking and editing the properties; secondly, the line size is set to "5.00" and again can be changed via the same process as above. Now thinking there's got to be a setting somewhere to change this globally I decided to dig around in the settings and becoming dumbfounded by the fact that this global setting is nowhere to be found. So as to be a good steward of this program I'm requesting this section of the code to be revisited as to make the entire program a bit more user friendly in a professional and non professional situation.

How is "off" the fact that the Cyan Ellipse tool gives you a cyan ellipse?

As you see, this bug is marked as fixed in 4.11.0. Are you running that version? Because if you are not i don't see what kind of information you are trying to add here.

Try to find the file tools.xml distributed with okular. For example here: /usr/share/kde4/apps/okular/tools.xml. But that is distribution dependent. Make a backup and edit the original file. There must be something in there suggesting an eclipse. You can select color values with tools like gcolor2.

My version:

Okular
Version 0.16.3
Using KDE Development Platform 4.10.3

I meant no disrespect in any fashion, with my previous comment; I realize programmers take pride in their work and rightfully so, henceforth, as an avid user of this program I humbly offer a suggestion for consideration.

In Settings -> Configure Okular -> offer a separate section were the user could edit the features of the review options. So instead of calling "Cyan Ellipse Tool", just "Ellipse Tool" but leave the default color Cyan until the setting is changed by the user in the Configure Okular section.

I will consider this matter closed. Thank you for your time.

Russell, Albert is just saying that they have been implemented in 4.11.0, i.e. the *next* KDE major release, which is not yet out. So, since you are *not* running the development version, you're describing your wishes against an old version.
The good news is that this feature has been implemented the way you described it :)
This is an old screenshot, what you'll find in KDE 4.11 will be slightly different: http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/okular-devel/attachments/20120801/47fb19e0/attachment-0010.png .

Cheers

Awesome. I will now try to inadvertently impress students with it. Thanks.
