Description Maciej Pilichowski 2006-02-23 17:28:05 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.1)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

This wish is quite similar to:

http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=88591

However, the state of the progress box should be configurable -- let's say I want it opened at all times.

Btw. I don't quite understand why the cited bug has "fixed" status since all posts are from March, 2005, and till now /February, 2006/ KMail doesn't even remember the last state /just open the progress-box, I mean, show detailed view, quit KMail, run KMail again, the progress-box is closed :-(/.

PS. Sorry, it should be a wish, not a bug!

KMail now (1.9.6) does not remember progress box status after closing. In addition, "Detailed progress window" button has been placed in extremely hard to use way, in maximum distance from "Check mail in" button. I have several mailboxes and need to see status of mail transfer from each of it. Since "Detailed progress window" button shows up only _after_ "Check mail in" has been clicked, I need to move cursor very very quickly from upper left part to lower right part of KMail window, to catch "Detailed progress window" button while it's here yet. This action is necessary each time after start of KMail window with first mail download. Be assured that some strong words about "usability gurus" come to my mind each time when I do that... :)

Status of "Detailed progress window" should be configurable or at least be remembered in KMail parameters.

KMail is not a best example of UI usability, but on the other hand it is virtually impossible to write stable app yet maintain all UI details. So better keep "strong words" for yourself and meanwhile pull down toolbar -- you will get "check mail in" and status close together.

I don't ask to change placement of progress box. In full accordance with this bug headline, I would like to see opened/closed progress-box default state _configurable_ in KMail settings. This shouldn't be so hard.

> meanwhile pull down toolbar

People are different. I hate "lower" toolbars and avoid using them whenever possible. I know lots of people who move also KDE panels to upper part of screen, and most of these persons have never used Mac.

Me too.

Yes, but there are a lot of "not so hard" things for KMail not mentioning current development of KDE4 -- all of them requires a lot of work. So please, be patient and don't make developers angry. Besides, if this is not so hard, you could do it by yourself, right? If not -- respect other people time.

Me too :-) It was just a nasty workaround suggestion.

Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented.
Thank you for your understanding.

Instead of creating a new feature request, please confirm here if the wishlist is still valid for kmail2.
