Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.0) OS: Linux When I open a file in konqueror, I can choose which program I want run to open a file, but this functionality is missing in kmail: you can only open the attachment with the 'standard' is defined app. Open an attachment should be just the same as open a file. It's a little bit te same as Bug 83037, but now for attachments (and not for links; actually it's al the same: files :) ). I hope this bug report can be useful to improve kde Greetings Hendrik
Right-click the link on the mail reading pane (not the MIME part list) and you'll see an Open With entry. It should be available in the MIME tree as well.
Yes, I see the 'open with'-option when I right-click on the attachment, but what I was trying to say (I was unclear about that, sorry) is that I don't get a quick-menu with the progams associated with the file-type of the attachment (like ionqueror gives). For example, if I have a mail with a PDF-file, I would like to open it quickly with eather 'acroread', 'kpdf', 'xpdf' and I don't want to search for those programs with the 'open with' option. I hope I was a little bit more clear now Greetings Hendrik
Indeed. When someone left-clicks on an attachment, the following dialog window pops up: Open Attachment? [i] Open attachment 'foo.jpg'? Note that opening at attachment may compromise your security [ ] Do not ask again [Save As…] [Open with 'Gwenview'] [Cancel] There needs to be some to allow the user to select one of the other applications assigned to the MIME type of the attachment. For example, the middle button could be changed to "Open with:" and beside it have a drop-down box listing all the applicable applications; the default entry should be the default application for that MIME type.

This seems to be fixed in the KDE4 version, there is an entry "Open With" in the context menu for attachments.
