Description matt 2004-12-04 00:17:45 UTC
Version:           unknown (using KDE 3.1.1)
Installed from:    SuSE
Compiler: gcc version 3.3 20030226 (prerelease) (SuSE Linux)
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.4.20-4GB

Please allow the use of loopback and encrypted filesystems to be controlled by KDE Devices. This at least allows the requirement of a passphrase (SuSE's implementation requires 20+ characters). Better would also be to allow the use of another fstab (SuSE's is /etc/cryptotab, I'm not sure if this is a standard or just their own meanderings).

With increasing use of technologies such as PGPDisk for Windows, and the ever-increasing need for security information on potentially stolen laptops, this is a very valuable functionality which would be worth implementing in the near future. If I have overlooked some method of doing this, please don't hesitate to smack me up side the head for being stupid. Perhaps a wizard for setting up Blowfish-encrypted file-based filesystems (ie. /home/matt/encrypted.img is an encrypted FS which gets mounted on /home/matt/CRYPTODIR/) would be a great benefit! You guys have proven time and time again to be better at GUI's than just about everybody else (definitely better than SuSE YaST tools, although they are better than many).

Thank you all EVERSOMUCH for your invaluable work in all the many applications and framework which makes up KDE. I am no longer able to survive in Windows -- even with Cygwin -- because their GUI is lacking so much of KDE's value. For example, between <ALT-F2> and Enhanced Browsing I'm able to search my corporate directory based on Last Name, First Name, or UserID with 4 key-combinations and the search criteria. KNewsTicker is a better RSS-reader than all others I've seen for any OS, the flexible and powerful *-Bars allow a very customized desktop, KGPG is just awesome, Klipper is a killer app in itself, and I can't waste more of your time listing all the other awesome parts which make KDE my only DE. Just know that you are the guys which allow me to encourage friends and family to use Desktop Linux! And SuSE does a good job of packaging your wares :)
<YOU ROCK>

Since #113629 is closer to my plans about encrypted media, I'm closing this
one as a duplicate of #113629. I'd prefer do it this way since #94357 is a
bit outdated now considering the available technologies.
