Description Martin Koller 2003-12-03 13:28:55 UTC
Version: 3.1.94 (using KDE 3.1.94 (3.2 Beta 2), compiled sources)
Compiler: gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.2 2.96-112.7.2)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.22

In 3.1.4 there was a RMB action "create new folder", which has now gone and is only accessible via theedit menu/actions.

As it is a very common task to create a new folder in the current viewed one, this should definitely be in the RMB menu.

hmm, when i open konqueror showing my home and then press the rmb i get a context menu in which the very first item is "create new..." and in there i can select "Folder..."

so, i cannot confirm that bug. should be closed

It is not shown in "detailed list view mode", which is what I always use.

Further investigation shows that RMB gives "create new folder" in "detailed list view mode" if, and only if, the list of folders and files is shirt enough to not activate vertical scroll bar. In this situation you get an empty erea below the list of files and folders where "create new folder" otion appear. But if the list gets so long that konqy needs the vertical scrollbar it only select the file that is in line with where you click. (Gan this explination get more complicated?).

I think you get my point :-)

Cheers JO

I do hope the point is, that is is not the behaviour someone expects and
wants, and will therefore be fixed.

It looks like this bug is related (and sort of, but not quite, a dup) of bug 68975.

Can confirm this bug.
Little bit annoying to create a new folder with "Edit - create new.."

Seems like Bug 67639 is a dup too.

I have this bug too. Its a focus problem as it seems. If you press the RMB on a line in the file detail view, the file is selected regardless where you click. For a selected filename, the RMB menu of course does not contain a "Create New" entry.

So the bug is that someone thought it might be more consistent to activate a selection regardless which column in the view was clicked - but this is of course wrong. It is clearly a regression against 3.1.x.

And it is utterly annoying.

It's getting worse. Someone please try this: Try to drop something into a direc^H^H^Hfolder that only contains other folders. It's not possible. You can only drop it into one of the subfolders, not into the folder itself. Same applies to Copy&Paste with Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V. I can't believe that this went through unnoticed. Is nobody actually using konqueror as a filemanager? Everybody back to midnight commander?
Comment 10 Jason W 2004-05-12 21:50:18 UTC
So true.. when pasting something into a folder with a lot of subfolders, it is incredibly annoying to have to scroll down first so I don't paste it into one of the subfolders (though not as bad I'm sure as when there are only subfolders).

And IIRC, right clicking on a folder in the tree doesn't let you paste anything, am I correct? argh

Seems to be fixed in current CVS, therefore I close it.
