Version: 1.4.3 (using KDE 3.0.4) Installed from: SuSE Compiler: gcc version 2.95.3 20010315 (SuSE) OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.18-4GB it would be helpful to specify what messages should be deleted after retrieving them from the pop3 server: a.) keep messages younger than XXX days on the server b.) keep the last XXX MB on the server c.) keep the last XXX messages on the server d.) delete everything so i can for instance always keep the last 100 messages (option c.) on the server to read them via the web-interface of my email-provider when i'm in a web-cafe or somewhere else.
I would very much like to see this feature added as my ISPs refuse to support IMAP. Almost every other major gui mail client has this capability.
It would be also nice to be able to let kmail delete mails on the pop3 server which has been deleted locally. I use my pop3 server on several computers but delete them on only one, but that doesn't mean I want to keep spam that long. ;)
Another user who'd like to have the option to delete the messages from the server after nnn days.
Another user that would like to have the "delete from server when deleted locally" option for pop3.
ditto :)
Me too :)
This is very similar bug bug #31114. Would it be beneficial to combine them? Both are REALLY needed. I am thinking of going back to mozilla mail because of it! Craig
See also Bug 38177 which is also about leaving the e-mails on the server for N days. I'd say that one should be marked as a dupe of this one.
This one has a request for 'keep the last XXX MB on the server' though.
Me with a friend have an POP account and need to download the same emails, so we need an option to leave the emails for N days in the server. A unusable solution is not to delete messages from the server, but then I have to open webmail periodically to delete them.
Not in KDE 3.4 :-/
Patch committed last night to implement deletion of messages over a certain age.
Created attachment 10583 [details] Implements leave x msgs & leave x MBs Fixes some issues with my previous leave x msgs patch, and also implements leave x MBs on server. Works well with my limited tests, and no crashes :) If as many people as possible could test this one I'd be very greatful. Rich.

I need to leave the messages on server so I need "delete from server when deleted locally" for my POP3 accounts. pliiiiiz! this is a feature that was available in mail clients from 1995!!! :)
This feature is on Don Sanders' shopping list: http://www.kontact.org/shopping/sanders.php
Created attachment 12113 [details] KDE 3.5 seems to have this functionality
It looks like in kde 3.5 this is implemented (see the screen shot of the pop account configuration for kde 3.5)... Also, while Step is right that this feature was available long ago in other clients, nowardays pop's importance has diminished almost, so most emphasis was put onto imap account, and new features for pop accounts are not so important any more. Cheers, Reinhold
Reinhold Kainhofer is correct this feature has been implemented by the kind and talented Kristian Eide and Rich Birch. I've updated the newFeatureList in Kontact/KMail and will update my commercial page shortly.
