Description ken 2002-02-02 03:32:17 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: kscd
Version: 1.3.2 (using KDE 2.2.2 )
Severity: normal
Installed from: Slackware Packages
Compiler: gcc 2.95.3 20010315 (release)
OS: Linux
OS/Compiler notes: Slackware 8 / kernel 2.4.17 SMP

Bug: KSCD stops playing a track after 45-55 seconds. KSCD then shows "Ready". I can select the same track or another track for play and the same thing occurs. The bug is repeatable with all the CDs I have.

Related symptom: As KSCD accesses the drive initially the following error is reported via syslog: Feb 1 21:28:50 <hostname> kernel: sr1: CDROM (ioctl) reports ILLEGAL REQUEST. This error is reported each time KSCD is launched and occassionally during play. There is no direct correlation with the error and the bug i.e. the times don't coincide.

Platform: Dual P3/600 w/ PCI128 sound card and ATAPI Ricoh CD-RW-DVD in SCSI emulation. Running SMP kernel 2.4.17 with es1370 module custom compiled for system. Slackware dist with KDE 2.2.2 packages and OpenSSL 0.9.6b from slackware-current (update to 8.0). Device is /dev/sr1 with perms 0644 and owner root:disk.

Other: Tested same CDs with Xine 0.9.8 CDA plugin and Workman 1.3. Both apps play CDs perfectly.

if you have updated to KDE3, does this bug persist for you?
Comment 3 ken 2003-02-18 02:40:45 UTC
I have not updated to KDE3. I still need to do some hardware upgrades and then
I will upgrade to Slackware 8.1 with KDE3.x. Thanks.

I _still_ have not upgraded hardware (sigh). In any case, after I upgrade hardware, I will install Slackware 9.1 with KDE 3.x packages. However, I understand if you just want to close this item.

Alex,

You have been most patient -- I have no objections. I finally have the
hardware to do my upgrade. If I see the problem in the current version,
I will open another bug. Otherwise, let's consider this one resolved
and closed.

Thanks again,
ken
