when going into digital clock settings, then calendar, then checking or unchecking the display events button and clicking apply does nothing. The events on the calendar are still listed and won't go away. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.na Actual Results: na Expected Results: na na
this works just fine here; are you sure it isn't the holidays that are being shown? calendar events and holidays are handled separately.
Why doesn't the option to not show holidays show up in the same place then?
Confirming on 4.8.5 - "display events" checkbox does nothing ! @Aaron: I dind't know that holidays and event are handled separately, and I still have no idea on how to disable the marking of holidays. This bug should be reopened. IMO, displaying / not displaying metadata (events and holidays) on the calendar should be controlled from a single location, as they are related. So, why not put a "display holidays" checkbox next to "display events" checkbox, in the digital clock settings ?
(In reply to comment #3) > Confirming on 4.8.5 - "display events" checkbox does nothing ! > And you have the calendar resource set correctly in Akonadi? It definitely works here in KDE 4.9.0 which is ahead of your version.
Akonadi service is not running on my system. It's a KDE or systemd service ??
Akonadi is currently only used by KDEPIM, so you could say it is a KDE service, but the packages are separate. Check if you have them installed, and if akonadi processes appear in the process monitor.
This happens on two of my computers right now. One of them never shows any events, the other one always shows events, and the display events checkbox never does anything.
(In reply to comment #7) > This happens on two of my computers right now. One of them never shows any > events, the other one always shows events, and the display events checkbox > never does anything. Could you please specify the versions you are talking about? Again, running KDE 4.9.1 here, I can't reproduce this.
I can
I can't run 4.9.1 yet, as kubuntu backports hasn't updated its repos yet. Where else can I find a repo of 4.9.1?
Created attachment 73867 [details] That's the problem !
I'll ilustrate the problem in a picture - please see the attachement ! Also, probably this bug has been fixed in 4.9.x...
Andrei, if I understand the screen shot right, you are complaining that disabling "Display events" still shows "something" in the calendar, right? If this is correct, you also need to disable the Holiday region in the list.
To clarify: Events = personal calendar data (Akonadi PIM database), e.g. birthdays of your friends Holidays = locale-dependend calendar data, with (usually fixed) days marking "no work"
There is no option for holiday regions on that tab.

Very helphul, Christoph - it worked ! But clearly this feature needs some more love: a) like illumilore said, there __must__ be 2 check boxes in that form: "display personal events" and "display holiday events"; b) after disabling both the events and holidays, the calendar changed its size __and__ font size, becoming inconsistent with its previous look & feel.
I agree that there could be an additional checkbox, mostly because it is not easy to see which of the holidays is currently enabled. Regarding the other bugs, see bug 306762, bug 292770, bug 282688, bug 281464.
(In reply to comment #17) > I agree that there could be an additional checkbox, mostly because it is not > easy to see which of the holidays is currently enabled. yes, the current form is confusing, and not to forget: "calendar events and holidays are handled separately" :) So, 2 checkboxes are the logical answer...
How do I disable the display of holidays? I just updated to 4.11 beta1 and started with fresh default settings. I have no idea how I disabled that in the past. I've been searching for half an hour now for a way to get rid of the holidays display to no avail. It seems the setting is extremely well hidden.
Nikos, you are right, there is a regression in 4.11. There used to be a region list, and you had the option to enable/disable Holidays for multiple regions. I cannot remember a discussion or a commit that this list should be removed, so all we can do now is wait for someone in the know to investigate this. I suggest to report this regression separately.
Please, can we get rid of this annoying display? Right now, it is informing me that next Friday is the national Animal day.. good grief! I need a way to turn the whole display off, and go back to a normal, sane calendar... please help..
(In reply to comment #21) > I need a way to turn the whole display off, and go back to a normal, sane > calendar... please help.. Ok, with some grief again I turned off the holiday, and now my calendar is squished.. ooer..

Hello! This feature request was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this feature request is already implemented in Plasma 5, or is no longer applicable. Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this feature request. If the requested feature is still desired but not implemented in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging Thanks for your understanding!
