Description Parameshwara Bhat 2008-08-17 01:17:31 UTC
Version: 4.1.1 (using KDE 4.1.0)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

I am going to attach a screenshot as well which shows it.I start konqueror,it is not showing the main toolbar. When I slide the extra toolbar,it appears. But I open a new tab,it disappears.I again slide and get back.I switch back to this tab,it disappears again.

There are similar bugs files on konq-4,but,I am not sure this is related to them.

I have encountered the same bug or a similar bug involving the "HTML Toolbar"; it becomes hidden (and its checkbox in the "Settings" -> "Toolbars" menu becomes unchecked) whenever I bring a tab to the foreground.

To reproduce the bug, do this:

- Have Konqueror running with at least two tabs open and HTML pages loaded in both of them.
- Unhide the "HTML Toolbar".
- Click on a tab other than the foreground tab. (Alternately, press Ctrl+Shift+N to open a new blank tab.) Doing this will cause the "HTML Toolbar" will become hidden again.

I am using Arch Linux for x86_64 and its standard KDE packages, including kdebase 4.1.2-1, kdebase-runtime 4.1.2-1, and kdelibs 4.1.2-2.

This behavior didn't happen for me when I used KDE 4.1.0; instead, the behavior described in bug 167780 happened. I think that the HTML toolbar began disappearing when I updated to 4.1.1.

Is this still the case in the latest version of KDE, v4.7.4 ? For me the HTML toolbar does not disappear when I switch between tabs including as outlined in bug# 227200.

I cannot comment on 4.7.4 but the bug is, infuriatingly, still there under 4.7.3. Given that I filed Bug 187021 nearly three years ago, I despair of it ever getting fixed. :(

Are there developers around Konqueror at all? Is it regarded as a relic due to relegated to dust bin in course of time.

What happens if you simply remove or move to another location your profiles and start new ? Try removing or moving the profiles from ~.kde/share/apps/konqueror/profiles and see if that solves your problem.

When I moved to Fedora 16 a few months ago, I started with a fresh home directory and only copied non-"." files and directories. I do this with every new release of Fedora I install. So, the defect survives deletion of the Konqueror profiles. :(

Well. I dunno what to tell you. I most definitely cannot reproduce this bug. And from your original description in bug 187021, you seem to state that this happens randomly. Unfortunately without concrete steps to reliably reproduce the problem, it is impossible to identify the cause. Hence, why no one has addressed this issue.

Anyhow, if someone who has the latest KDE version, v4.7.4 or even 4.8 rc1 can provide the exact steps to reproduce this and provide both the global [1] and the local a copy the "filemanagement" and "webbrowser" profiles installed on your, it would help me determine the cause. Otherwise, there is nothing I can do about it. Especially since I do neither use nor care about that toolbar.

How to re-create:

1) Start Konqueor and ensure that the HTML toolbar is visible
2) Go to kde.org
3) From konsole: killall -9 konqueror (this simulates a Konqueror crash)
4) Restart Konqueror and select "Restart session"
5) No HTML toolbar - sometimes. The toolbar reappears about 50% of the time!
Comment 13 Kevin Gilbert 2012-03-07 20:05:05 UTC
I have been trying to notice when the toolbar disappears but have not yet been able to lock it down to a specific event.

But what I have discovered is that if Konqueror has crashed or has to be aborted (due to looping & etc.) and then you select the restart option, the toolbar is missing. BUT if you then simultaneously start another Konqueror instance or shut the restarted instance down and start another Konqueror instance, the toolbar is present.

To me, this implies that the actual Konqueror configuration files still specify the toolabr but that something that persists over restarts of aborted instances lacks that specification.

As I can read in your comments there still seems to be an issue in more recent versions. Could you please check if this issue is still valid for Konqueror 4.8.4?
Comment 15 Kevin Gilbert 2012-06-19 20:41:01 UTC
Not sure about 4.8.4 but still exists on 4.8.1

Thank you for the fast feedback.

I have found that when Konqueror is started by the session manager [ie right after logging in to KDE], then the HTML and Extra toolbars will be there, but opening a new tab results in the toolbars disappearing.
Comment 18 alex dekker 2014-02-06 21:28:46 UTC
Still present in 4.11.3.

One way I've found to reproduce this:
- visit web page with image on
- right click on image, click view image
- image opens in new tab, with no HTML or Document Relations toolbar
- Go to K menu, start new Konqueror
- New Konqueror window appears, with no HTML or Document Relations toolbar
