Description Kevin Gilbert 2009-03-13 04:30:42 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.0)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Fedora RPMs

When I configure Konqueror to show the HTML toolbar, it does not persist.

When restarting Konqueror, the toolbar must be shown again. And, when doing so in a session with multiple tabs, the toolbar does not show when other tabs are selected. The toolbar will also disappear when moving off the page that was being displayed when the toolbar was forcibly shown.

Note that, in some cases, the toolbar will persist for some time/sessions/pages/tabs before disappearing again.

I'm seeing this in 2.2.2 (Debian unstable packages).

As far as I have been able to track it down - any konq window with any tabs at all - will lose its HTML toolbar if you log out and back in again. I saw some subtleties with it, whereby the first (left) tab, if the 'open tab', would have the HTML toolbar visible, but if you flicked to another tab, you'd lose the HTML toolbar at that point.

I have consistently had the HTML toolbar come back on every window that has just one page (ie. no tabs in use).

Just in case it's relevant - I have my icon-based toolbars (Main, Bookmark, HTML) all lined up on the left side of my konqueror window. I have icon-size set to small in all cases, and icons-only (no text). When I have to manually re-enable the HTML toolbar, it always starts along the top - usually to the right of the location toolbar - and is always 'normal size'.

In my case HTML toolbar disappears quite randomly - sometimes when I start Konqueror, it's gone; sometimes it's gone on opening a new windows from an existing Konqueror window (with many tabs); sometimes when I close Konqueror that started without HTML toolbar and then start it again, HTML toolbar is in its place. It disappears quite randomly too, but the most luck to achieve it is to make it shown somewhere and then quit KDE without closing Konqueror - after logging in again, Konqueror does some magic with HTML toolbar: maybe showing it, but not in new window, not in new tab, maybe not at all etc.

I've experienced this in all versions of KDE4: from 4.0 to 4.3.3 in which I am right now. It's quite.. um.. teaching patience.

I confirm this very annoying behavior. But I don’t think I have to log out for this. Yesterday I was reading some Wikipedia in bed :-) after which I closed the window and suspended the laptop to RAM (through powerdevil, which locked the session). Today, I was in IRC and klicked on a link in Konversation, and the toolbar was gone again.

Readding the toolbar through Settings->Toolbars had no visible effect in that window. So I opened another Konqueror window and there it did appear upon selection in the menu.

I’ve been observing this bug for months now, because the toolbar is (mostly) always gone when I need it, namely when I’m in bed and don’t want to stretch out for the keyboard. *g* However, I wasn’t yet able to determine the cause or a pattern of reproducability.

Yup, still present in 4.4.95 :(

Surely this is confirmed by now?
