Version:           1.7.1 (using KDE 3.3.1, SuSE)
Compiler:          gcc version 3.3.3 (SuSE Linux)
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.5-7.111-default

Actually, in ordert to start a new search, you have to click on the button in the toolbar or an entry in menu, while a more logical behaviour would be to allow that by clicking on the search folder... 
Perhaps by showing the search "dialog" inside the khtml component (replacing the Kmail wellcome message)
