Description Heiko Baums 2004-10-20 00:21:53 UTC
Version: KMail 1.7.1 (using KDE KDE 3.3.1)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: GCC 3.3.4
OS: Linux

For some inexplicable reasons the mail folders aren't sorted alphabetically any more as it was in KMail 1.7.0 (KDE 3.3.0) and before.

After updating from KDE 3.3.0 to 3.3.1 and just copying the KMail configurations the folders which I declared as sent folders in the configuration dialog "Identities -> Advanced -> Folders for sent messages" have a new icon and are displayed on top of the folder list.

The folders which are declared as incoming folders in the configuration dialog "Network -> Receipt -> Destination folder" have the usual icon which they had in the KMail versions before and are displayed at the bottom of folder list.

I mean the idea with the new icons is quite good but the incoming folders should then also have a new icon. And if these both folder types have such icons then the icons for the sent folders should have an arrow which is showing from the folder away and the incoming folders should have an icon which is showing (in)to the folder.

And what's much more important... The folders should be displayed alphabetically sorted as in the KMail versions before (KMail 1.7.0 and before).

Because I have many identities and for every identity I have two folders, one for incoming mails and one for outgoing mails. The incoming folders are of course much more important than the sent folders and it's very annoying if the unimportant folders are displayed at the top of the folder list while the important folders are somewhere at the bottom.
But, please, don't just change it, so that the incoming folders are at the top and the sent folders are at the bottom. This would also be confusing.

So it would be the best if the folder list is displayed exactly as in the versions before - alphabetically - maybe with the new icons.

I second this request, yet not maybe with new icons but definitely with new icons as this makes up a bit for kmail not being able to handle pop3 accounts as separate accounts. So if the user is forced to set up "filters" to sort messages to different folders this should be eased as much as possible.

Hence automatically assigning incoming and sent icons, plus drafts, as people use different drafts-folders when using imap.

The order should be alphabetically and if not, at least incoming before drafts and sent after drafts, in the order of their importance, as the reporter already stated.

Reproducable in development version. In short: destination folders for pop3 accounts should be marked as inbox (with icon and ordering), just like imap.

Bug still exists in KMail 1.7.2 (KDE 3.3.2).
Comment 4 S. Burmeister 2005-01-23 12:55:35 UTC
Still exists in 3.4 beta1
Comment 5 Heiko Baums 2005-03-20 06:04:05 UTC
And in 3.4 also.
Has anyone of the KMail developers read this bug report?
Comment 6 Thiago Macieira 2005-03-20 06:23:50 UTC
I am sure they have.
Comment 7 Heiko Baums 2005-08-03 10:45:04 UTC
The problem still exists in KMail 1.8.2 (KDE 3.4.2).
Comment 8 Heiko Baums 2005-11-10 01:17:23 UTC
About a year later the bug still exists in KMail 1.8.3 (KDE 3.4.3) and still no comment from a developer.
Comment 9 Andreas Gungl 2005-11-10 07:00:03 UTC
Okay, here is the comment: there are issues with higher priority which the developers are currently working on. It's all a question of manpower. So I cannot promise when this problem will be worked on.

*** Bug 135624 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Comment 11 Jaime Torres 2008-09-10 19:10:37 UTC
The problem is similar to the folder sorting in non english languages (bug #73503)?
Comment 12 Björn Ruberg 2009-12-20 00:51:43 UTC
I see the folders alphabetically sorted in KDE 4.3
Comment 13 S. Burmeister 2009-12-20 12:07:31 UTC
No, KDE 4.3.4 still shows folders named e.g. www... which are set as destination for sent emails of an account above "normal" folders such as "Mailinglists".

Please reopen.

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

KMail2 was released in 2011, and the entire code base went through significant changes. We are currently in the process of porting to Qt5 and KF5. It is unlikely that these bugs are still valid in KMail2.

We welcome you to try out KMail 2 with the KDE 4.14 release and give your feedback.
