Version: 1.1 (using KDE KDE 3.3.0) Installed from: Gentoo Packages OS: Linux I guess it would not be really dificult to add a JACK plugin, would it? When outputting to JACK, Amarok does not need to care about effects, because the user can simply connect Amarok to another JACK application like Jack Rack.
ignore my ignorance, but can JACK play MP3?
No, but my idea was that Amarok could use Xine/GStreamer/whatever to decode the mp3, just like it is doing now, and use JACK in stead of ALSA for playing the decoded audio. I'm not familiar with how Xine/GStreamer/etc work, so please forgive me if I asked for something stupid.
what you're asking for is gstream support for jack - which it might already have, I don't know. At least arts has.
Yep, GStreamer will output to Jack if you install Jacksink. aRts can also. I don't know any of the details about the Jacksink however, so I'm not sure if you can redirect the output etc.
A jack output plugin would be great. In fact, this is the reason why I still use xmms instead of amarok. I need this to play an ogg file and use my instruments to play along with various software synthesizers.
Since gstreamer support for jack is broken I have added an updated wishlist item here: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=134767
