Description justin smithies 2004-09-24 11:41:17 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.3.0)
Installed from: Unlisted Binary Package
Compiler: gcc 3.4.2
OS: Linux

KDE runs fine except when i click on logout. The screen goes black and all i see is the mouse cursor and that is my linux box totally frozen / locked up.
No amount of ctrl alt del or backspace works , no terminal etc, i have to reset or switch off / on again.
This doesnt seem to be an xorg issue as i have spoken to someone else that use slackware and they too have the same problem.
I use Arch Linux ( http://www.archlinux.org )
HELP guys ...

I'm having the same problem - lock up only when exiting KDE session.

Distro: Gentoo
X: Xorg-6.7.0, tried both r128 and vesa driver
Kernel: 2.4.26
Video: ATI All-In-Wonder 128 Pro
KDE: 3.3.0

This problem occurred after upgrading KDE. I can use other window managers like twm and blackbox without any lockup problem. It doesn't matter which driver I use, r128 or vesa, it still locks up. It doesn't matter if I use kdm or not. I created a new account so I got a fresh KDE configuration and still locks up. I there anywhere else I can look for more info or things to try?

Solved. The problem was the emu10k1 alsa driver for the 2.4 kernel. Unloading these modules got rid of the problem. I upgraded to 2.6 kernel and those alsa drivers work fine.

I have the same problem, my kernel is 2.4.28, my video card is a Nvidia TNT, the XFree is 4.3.0.2.90.55,my sound card is a cs4281 and the KDE version is 3.3.1. This problem has begun when i removed the nvidia driver, obtained the nvidia's site, and installed again the nv driver of kernel.

If you want simulate the bug mentioned in Additional Comment #5. Follow the steps:

1 - Use GDM.
2 - Listening a media using a player like gxine for some minutes.
3 - Execute another program.
4 - Do a logoff.

After the mouse and the keyboard freeze. Ctrl + ALT + BackSpace doesn't work.

Regards,

Antônio Dantas.

Arts is no longer developed and has been unmaintained for quite some time - more than 2 years. With phonon as the replacement for arts in KDE4, we're closing out all the arts bugs in Bugzilla since there is no chance of them being fixed.

Thanks
