Description Jim Breton 2004-07-01 21:37:43 UTC
Version: 3.2.1 (using KDE KDE 3.2.2)
Installed from: RedHat RPMs
OS: Linux

Whenever I Merge or Add (via the Add Resource dialog) my Evolution calendar (I'm not sure if it's ical or vcal format, the filename is "calendar.ics" but the top of the file says "BEGIN VCALENDAR"), the times in KOrganizer appear 1 hour later than they should.

For example, if I have an appointment in Evolution at 3PM, it will appear in KOrganizer at 4PM.

My KDE Time Zone is set to "America/New_York".

Sorry, I forgot to add that my operating system is Fedora Core 2. Also, I have seen some other bug reports in Bugzilla that seemed similar (like http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80448) but not quite exactly the same, therefore I filed this separately.

Thanks.

Strangely, after following the above procedure, my events' times are now 5 hours ahead of where they should be; doing the exact same thing when I filed the bug report (about 1/2 hour ago) put them 1 hour ahead. I have changed nothing, other than Adding/Removing the external calendar several times. So, it apparently is not always wrong by just 1 hour.

This was a problem about libkcal not understanding the TZID attribute of times in the .ics file. Should be fixed in the latest version of korganizer (shipped with kde 3.3). Can you please check?

Thanks,
Reinhold

Should be fixed with kde 3.3. Lots of timezone fixes went in.

I can confirm that this or a similar issue is still a bug with KDE 3.3.1 under Debian SID. Kontact/Korganizer, upon receiving an appointment, displays correct Central Time Zone calculation, but accepting the appointment places it about six hours ahead in the calendar. (CST=GMT-0700, so that makes sense -- I'm not sure if Daylight Savings Time, which shifts it forward or back 1hr for half the year, affects this calculation.) For example, accepting a 9:30am appointment would make it show up as a 3:30pm in the calendar. (FYI, the Exchange 2003 server that I access is actually located in Dublin.)

I've checked time zone setting in multiple places: (why does it need to be set in multiple places? Perhaps this should be considered a different bug?):

tzconfig (i.e., /etc/localtime)
KDE Control Panel
Korganizer Control Panel

Other than that, this is AWESOME. Kontact, through Kpilot, syncs great with my Samsung SPH-i500 Palm Smart Phone. Finally, PIM software that's better than Evolution!

I see the same problem in 3.4.1.

When I get appointments sent by outlook, kmail displays the time one hour too early, and if I accept the appointment it is entered into korganizer one hour too early. This causes much merriment about Linux users when I show up :-)

The timezone in the appointment is GMT+01:00, my timezone according to date is
CET which is equivalent.
