Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1.91) Installed from: Gentoo Packages OS: Linux After upgrading to KDE 3.2 alpha1, XMMS crashes when I use the OSS output (under artsdsp). ogg123 works though, so it's not a general artsdsp failure.
This may be caused by KDE ignoring my settings telling it to *not* run artsd itself (I start artsd from .xinitrc). The Control Center has the Sound Server disabled, yet KDE seems to be trying to start it every second. This is not going to work because KDE itself is under artsdsp.
Why are you running KDE under artsdsp if KDE can talk to the aRts server fine?
Because it causes all applications launched by KDE (eg everything) to also run under artsdsp.
Ok, makes sense. Anyways, whenever KDE needs to talk to aRts and it isn't running, artsd is spawned. Or at least knotify does so. That might be the cause of your problem. Make sure artsd is running before KDE is started if you want to run KDE under artsdsp.
artsd is running before KDE is started. This bug does not exist in KDE 3.1.4, only 3.2. Furthermore, KDE repeatedly tries to start it long after it has been running when artsd has been running for quite some time.
artsdsp has "issues" *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 62603 ***
I don't believe this should be a duplicate of bug 62603... 62603 was reported with KDE 3.1.3, whereas my artsdsp setup works perfectly fine in 3.1.{3,4}.
arts 1.2 will not work with the current xmms see 65664
