Description pradeep 2003-06-17 19:10:17 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1)
Installed from: RedHat RPMs
Compiler: gcc-3.2.2-5
OS: Linux

Hi,
I have two problems with the KDE-3.1 from RedHat 9

1. When I am trying to configure a screensaver in the setup menu of the screen saver settings section using the kcontrol, X freezes and I have to kill and restart X by remotely logging into the system. It happens randomly with almost all the screensavers.
OpenGL screensavers also have this problem , but randomly .

Even when the screensavers fireup after a timeout and lock my screen, and when I try to move mouse and press on keyboard, the X freezes and I cannot enter password. I have to kill X to use the system.

XFree86 - 4.3.0-2
gcc - 3.2.2
KDE - 3.1-12
Video Card : ATI Radeon Mobilty M6

2. When I trying to run xscreensavers from KDE, the xscreensavers keep flickering, which is annoying. They run fine in GNOME. When I run manually , they run fine, but when I try to move the window, it freezes X again here too.

For example, I run "kxsrun endgame" and try to move that window, it freezes X and keyboard also, so that I have to reboot to use the system.

Please help me out what is wrong with screensave application in KDE?
I came to know from XFree86 mailing list that this XScreensaver Flickering is due to bug in KDE, as KDE is not requesting the double buffered windows.

Unfortunately I'm not sure we can do much about this, X freezing is invariably
and X bug (nothing should be able to crash X) and should probably be reported
in the XFree86 bugzilla. Do you have DRI enabled? If so, can you try
disabling. Radeon DRI still seems relatively poor in terms of stability and
performance.

I have a Radeon Mobility M7 with XFree86 4.3 and do not see most of these
crashes.

Yes, I can reproduce this problem, and I will investigate soon.

No response about disabling DRI; assume it's a X bug, the rest is a duplicate.
