Description Pascal Cavy 2003-03-25 12:53:39 UTC
Version: 1.5 (using KDE 3.1.0)
Installed from: Mandrake Linux Cooker i586 - Cooker
Compiler: gcc version 3.2.2 (Mandrake Linux 9.1 3.2.2-3mdk)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.21-0.13mdkenterprise

Today the columns layout (order, width ...) is stored globally for all folders.
IE: go to a folder, change the width of a columns, then go to another folder, the latest layout is in effect there too.

I'd like to be able to set a personnal layout for each folder. especially the columns to be shown, their width and position, the sort order of the sorted one.

no need for a gui for this. just store the columns layout of each folder independently and apply it upon folder entry in the gui.

We have explicitely changed the folder dependant layout to a global one some time ago. We
won't revert this change. But we might make it possible to define some column layouts one can
choose from.

Humm I wonder why it have been suppressed as I don't really see the use of
having lots of global 'folder layout profiles'. Even if we had the possibility to
change, choosing a different profile each time we go to another folder would
really be quickly annoying.

Is this choosen behaviour the same for the virtual folders ?

still valid for kde 3.2.2 - and last question unanswered :)

I don't see here anything about quality, usability, etc. If someone made a mistake all she/he is supposed to say that it was intentional and...? that's all?

Maybe it was unfortunate move, design flaw, I don't know. The historic reasons maybe are interesting for developers but not for the end-users. Only quality counts.

Ok, enough about that.

Columns view in general should be fully configurable /currently they are not/ but also per folder. I would like to set for folder A columns
subject | receiver | date
for B
subject | sender | date

just an example. It could be something like profiles in Forte Agent. There is one global profile and then settings for folder -- "use global or local". If local -- the user is able to modify specific setting.

Agree. Still this problem in KMail 1.11.2 in KDE 4.2.2

I would like to set folder columns layout not globally, but per folder. For Inbox: Sender | Sub | Date | Size; for sent-mail: Receiver | Sub | Date | Size. Because it's unlogical to see Sender in sent-mail, because the sender is always me... If I change that to Receiver, then in Inbox and other folders Receiver would be also me. :C
