Description G 2003-03-15 20:57:02 UTC
Version:            (using KDE KDE 3.1)
Installed from:    SuSE RPMs
Compiler:          gcc 2.95
OS:          Linux

Control Center does not list my screen savers, although I can fins the files in $KDEDIR/share/applnk/Systen/ScreenSavers. Also, when I click the "Default"-button (or whatever it is named in english, the button below the list windos where the screen savers are supposed to be), I receive a signal 11 (SIGSEGV). Cannot trace any debugging symbols. The strange thing is that it worked the first few times I used the desktop. The [ScreenSaver] section in ~/.lde/share/config/kdesktoprc reads "..Saver=kdeartwork3-The_Matrix.desktop". I don't know if that is correct (I've selected Matrix, but is 'kdeartwork3'correct?
Greetings Göran Källqvist

I also have this problem. Worked fine for awhile, then suddenly didn't work at all.

My crash trace after clicking "Defaults.." is:

Distro? (This is potentially a packaging bug, as not reproducible with
source builds, but then it was reported with both SuSE and MDK, which
makes it quite less likely)
(CCing #56006, which is the master bug on this

screensaver modules list comes back and crash when <Default> button pressed
goes away after...

user login ->
kcontrol->desktop->panels->menus->editKmenu
RMB System->New SubMenu
name it "ScreenSavers"
then select KDE Menu Editor->Settings->Show Hidden Items

and the System->ScreenSavers item shows a directory full of, you guessed it,
screensavers that show up in the Kcm screensaver module from Kcontrol and
Configure Desktop

I'm not having any problems with any of the default screensavers shipped with KDE (from CVS HEAD). Assuming fixed.

has there been a patch for this yet....running mandrake 92 without screensavers...says resolved yet cant seem to find a fix for this...guessing not distro as many reports on this as well as suse and mdk having probs....please advise thanx
Comment 12 Bob Crawford 2004-04-14 07:45:42 UTC
I just updated SuSE 8.2 to KDE3.2.1
All scrrensavers vanished from listbox in ControlCenter, but appear in LostAndFound menu...
Uninstalling screensaver and reinstalling doesn't help...
Several newsgroup-people are having related-seeming problems.
I can't seem to find any fix - don't see how this is "resolved."

I guess it seems to be KDE artwork package problem. I have the same problems in Gentoo, with stable KDE (and unstable too, on two different computers).

After first installation screensavers did show up OK. Since I had some problems with arts stability I added following USE tags to make.conf - alsa arts (opengl I had already before). Portage emerged newer versions of alsa alsa-utils arts kdeartwork xorg-x11 and some other packages. After that screensavers are not listed in Kcontrol. When I input Ctrl-Alt-L (to lock screen), screensaver starts just fine. But I cannot change screensaver nor does it start after idle timeout.

Root user has all screensavers listed and it works perfectly. It may be some configuration file compatibility issue in ~/.kde .
