Description evgeniyharchenko.dev 2026-01-05 13:53:22 UTC
SUMMARY
Immediately after the Plasma session loads, all desktop icons appear on the left (secondary) monitor. About one second later, once the panel finishes loading, the icons that are supposed to be on the right (primary) screen jump back to their correct positions.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use a multi-monitor setup with desktop icons enabled on multiple screens.
2. Log in Plasma

OBSERVED RESULT
All desktop icons briefly appear on the left (secondary) screen, then move to their intended screens after a short delay.

EXPECTED RESULT
Desktop icons should appear on their correct screens immediately after login, without jumping or repositioning.

I can't reproduce this with current git master and two monitors on Wayland.

Are you in a position to test with the Wayland session and/or current git master?

Sure. I've just checked. The situation is as follows. The problem exists on both Wayland and X11, but there are a couple of nuances.
First, on Wayland the bug only occurs during a reboot; logout/login works without issues. However—and this is the most important part—during logout/login, the splash screen does not show for me, and the image on the second (non-primary) monitor appears with a delay. There's a suspicion that the icons still initially appear on the second monitor and then jump over, but because the image is missing, this isn't visible.

To repeat: during a normal reboot, the image on the screens appears simultaneously after the splash screen, so I can see the icons jumping.

Second, I'm using an installation on a slow drive for testing. Possibly because of this, the interface elements load quite slowly, and as a result I'm seeing this issue with the icons jumping.
