Created attachment 185973 [details] A Screenshot Of, In 6.4.5, At 150% Display Scale, In The Users KCM, The Avatar Appearing Blurred, With An Aliased, Truncated Border # SUMMARY When any image is submitted as a user's avatar via the Users KCM, the avatar becomes of lower resolution than its original form was, and, thereafter, it appears to be interpolated to compensate. This causes it to appear blurred. Conversely, its border is aliased, which causes its left side to appear truncated at small sizes (including in Application Launcher). # STEPS TO REPRODUCE Submit the attached avatar via the Users KCM. # OBSERVED RESULT The avatar is of lower resolution than its original form was, and it appears to be interpolated to compensate. This causes it to appear blurred. Conversely, its border is aliased, which causes its left side to appear truncated at small sizes (including in Application Launcher). # EXPECTED RESULT The avatar should not be of lower resolution, much less interpolated, and its border should not be aliased, especially because this causes its left side to be truncated at small sizes. # SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS > ~~~ > Operating System: Fedora Linux 42 > KDE Plasma Version: 6.4.5 > KDE Frameworks Version: 6.19.0 > Qt Version: 6.9.2 > Kernel Version: 6.16.12-200.fc42.x86_64 (64-bit) > Graphics Platform: Wayland > ~~~ This reproduces on multiple installations with different hardware. # ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Originally reported at https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=422182#c5.

Thanks for the bug report, and for attaching the image that you're using and for the screenshots. I see what you're describing. Note: The attached image is a 838 x 838 jpg, 46.8KiB I tested this on Plasma built from git-master, using two different pictures with these properties (and others): 256 x 254 jpg 1280 x 960 jpg 304.2KiB The user avatar looks OK, with a clear picture and smooth border, in: - The login screen - Andromeda Launcher - Users kcm Note that when testing with the jpg you sent, it looks the same for me in the kcm as in your screenshot. To me it looks like it's due to the graininess I see in the original image. It isn't nearly as fuzzy as in your screenshot of the Application Launcher. I do see the aliased border in Application Launcher but I can't see any fuzziness in the avatar picture. To summarize, what I can reproduce in git-master: An aliased border around the avatar in Application Launcher and the Users kcm
Could be an issue in Kirigami-addons (where the Avatar component lives) or it could be an issue in the Users KCM with how it masks the image. But TBH I don't really see any blurriness in any of the screenshots. The image is scaled down to be very small; I'm not sure how much detail it's really possible to render there at those sizes.

For me, this also reproduces with images without grain. I'll attach one. > I do see the aliased border in Application Launcher but I can't see any > fuzziness in the avatar picture. Are you using 100% display scale? In retrospect, I see this on my FW16 at 150%, but not on my AOC Q3279WG5B at 100%. I'll attach some comparisons.

I'll attach some comparisons. Therefore, might the aliased border and blurred avatar be separate problems (if you can, now, see the evident-to-me difference between https://bugsfiles.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=185974 and https://bugsfiles.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=186061), which I've erroneously conflated into one ticket?
