# SUMMARY

Using `plasma-drkonqi-6.4.2-1.fc42.x86_64` to debug Konsole hanging when searching for something in a 200 000-line terminal window, it fails.

# STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Create a custom Konsole profile with unlimited line support.

2. Invoke `sudo strace -Ttrf waydroid container start` until you've 200 000 lines.

3. Search for something.

4. When hung, allow the DE to kill Konsole.

5. When Dr. Konqi offers to generate a trace, accept.

`gnome-abrt-1.4.3-4` fails to, too. Probably because `coredumpctl debug` does:

You can download the corefile yourself at https://www.mediafire.com/file/1al2rqcvv7qnjlk/core.konsole.1000.2c634527fdf84b47a0713f5be3a618b5.46450.1752169338000000.tar.lzma/file, if of use. It's 5 GiB uncompressed, but I've compressed it in an LZMA2 TAr file to 98 MiB.

The automatic submission GUI never completes.
Comment 3 Harald Sitter 2025-07-11 09:00:11 UTC
It cannot generate a trace for a broken core.
Comment 4 Roke Julian Lockhart Beedell 2025-07-11 09:46:59 UTC
(In reply to Harald Sitter from comment #3)

Right. However, in that case, it shouldn't ask the user to retry in the Developer Mode, and shouldn't endlessly pretend to submit it in the Automatic mode, and should actually explain the problem.

I've since ascertained that I can reproducibly invoke this by opening a large file in Okular or KWrite, then closing it when it hangs (basically, by doing what https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=507036 describes in anything except Ark):

Considering that this seems like a somewhat common outcome, perhaps it should be better handled.

I see another example at https://discuss.kde.org/t/help-with-plasmashell-stuck-in-a-crashing-loop/37172?u=rokejulianlockhart, where the user doesn't realise that the trace isn't useful.

A `RuntimeError`'s Log

(In reply to Roke Julian Lockhart Beedell from comment #8)

Actually, that's different. Apologies. That's a `RuntimeError`, and unlike when `drkonqi` hits an `UnexpectedMappingException`, it doesn't pretend to continue to report the bug. I'll file a separate issue somewhere about that, since it seems like it might be a problem with `coredumpctl`.

I'm not surprised that Dr. Konqi can't cope, because something is really wrong:

I can print traces until this occurs. It's a matter of time, not what the debugserver does. Depending upon how fast the host machine is, I can sometimes print the entire stack:
