SUMMARY

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Edit a file in Kate, use mouse wheel for vertical scrolling.
2.
3.

OBSERVED RESULT
Vertical scrolling with mouse wheel suddenly stops working.

An existing Dolphin window also has wheel scrolling broken.

If I create a new Kate window (File -> New Window), wheel scrolling still doesn't work in the new window.

If I create a new Kate window by running "kate" in shell, scrolling works.

If I create a new Dolphin window (File -> New Window), scrolling works.

If I enable "Press MMB and move mouse for scrolling" in SystemSettings->Mouse, the mouse pointer stays still when attempting to scroll (as expected), however the file in Kate doesn't scroll.

Scrolling keeps working in Chrome.

Scrolling keeps working in Libreoffice Calc.

Scrolling stopped working in Anki (Qt6/PyQt-based).

Scrolling stopped working in Telegram (Qt6-based).

EXPECTED RESULT
Scrolling should keep working.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Comment 1 Alexander Potashev 2025-07-06 20:58:38 UTC
I suspect a Qt bug because affected apps use Qt6.
Comment 2 Alexander Potashev 2025-07-06 21:02:36 UTC
https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-56214 looks similar, however my Qt version is newer than 6.6.0.
Comment 3 Alexander Potashev 2025-07-06 21:07:05 UTC
Workaround for Kate: Create session, restart Kate, open the same session.
Comment 4 Alexander Potashev 2025-07-06 21:43:27 UTC
No proper workaround for Dolphin due to https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=506695.
Comment 5 Waqar Ahmed 2025-07-07 10:13:41 UTC
I haven't seen this in a while, but one workaround for me was to plug/unplug the wired mouse and then it would start working.

I doubt we can do anything about it in Kate though. I'd suggest opening a bug upstream.

Will try next time. Thank you!
