Created attachment 182459 [details] Crackling audio when scrolling even when recording When changing the volume either by scrolling the icon or moving the slider, the audio crackles loudly and sounds harsh. This does not give a good first impression about it being a polished DE. It is reproducible on multiple machines, and other users have confirmed the same issue. It even happens on video recording (attached) https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/1lg1mjo/does_the_audio_crackle_and_pop_when_changing/ I am using Plasma 6.4 on Arch but this problem has existed for atleast 2 years and on every Distro.
This was largely an issue with the sound itself which has been fixed in Plasma 6.5. At least at 100% volume and lower. At higher than 100%< all bets are off

At higher than 100%< all bets > are off Hi Nate, thanks for replying and looking at this issue Weirdly, I do not think it is actually solved! Yes, I am indeed using Plasma 6.5 And the same issue persists, loud popping and crackling when I scroll the audio or increase the audio I can take another video, to show what I mean. I will experimenting with other Distros (which have KDE 6.5) to see if maybe it is some conflict on this current installation For the past long while, my temporary "workaround" , I Just disable audio feedback on volume change in "Configure Audio Controls" since it sounds so bad. Thanks again for looking at this issue, as it has been plaguing me for quite awhile now.
Yes, could you attach a recording of how it sounds for you in Plasma 6.5?

(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #3) > Yes, could you attach a recording of how it sounds for you in Plasma 6.5? Hi again, just checking back on this. I attached a video demonstrating the issue still present in 6.5.1 I'll also add an imgur link if its more convenient https://i.imgur.com/kZwRfJm.mp4

I remember talking about this popping artifact a long while ago with one of the devs. The problem is not the sound itself, but it seems that everytime you scroll, if the sound is still playing it gets paused and then played again. The action of pausing the sound seems to cause popping. The conversation about this is probably somewhere on Invent, but I really don't remember where. I'm pretty sure it was deemed an issue hard to fix because if you just let the feedback sound play without interrupting the previous stream it can create problems with long sounds on custom sound themes and possibly overwhelm the system with multiple streams. My original workaround was to add a tiny empty space at the beginning of the sound, but that obviously added some delay to the feedback sound and wasn't considered a good solution. Unfortunately I don't think there's anything else I can do on the sound theme side. Any solution would have to come from changing how sounds get played. I'll keep the issue open just in case some dev wants to chime in.
The new sound is longer than the old one; probably shortening it to be about the length of the old one would work around the issue as well.
